YMMV / Tousouchuu: The Great Mission

Go To

  • Arc Fatigue: The first game in the series has the contestants fighting the same Kaiju with 6 different forms for 6 episodes straight, which can be a really sluggish way to start the series. Fortunately, the pacing gets much better afterward.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Raccoon Dog Man has a very peculiar design and never says anything. Yet precisely because of it AND because of him consistently averting being The Load in each game, he quickly garnered a fan following as The Reliable One and an overall Nice Guy, with some viewers going as far as to wish for a spin-off with Raccoon Dog Man as the main character. All of this is prior to The Reveal of who's behind the costume...
    • Among the Story Synapse characters, Inspector Max Major is often praised as one the most interesting characters in London Arc, even being more well-received than some of the runners. It also helps that he is a rather cooperative Fair Cop.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With the Digimon Ghost Game; partly due to being the show that took the timeslot Ghost Game had after Ghost Game ended, but also because of many nods to the Digimon anime in Tousouchuu.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Despite their rivalry, Sigma and Sawyer quickly get accustomed to working together and frequently compliment each other.
      • In the opening sequence, Sigma's Dynamic Entry is followed by him greeting Sawyer in a flirty manner, much to Sawyer's annoyance.
      • Goes even further in the London Arc where they constantly end up getting paired up for team missions, leading to several characters to lampshade the pattern. As icing on the cake, after they team up to beat the Arc Villain on the airship, they then proceed to flee the falling vehicle together with Sigma briefly holding Sawyer in a Bridal Carry while they descend.
    • Even when considering the money Penta owes him, Jairo is oddly protective of him and even sacrificed himself for Penta. The second ending theme implies that he generally likes spending time with Penta.
    • The main source of angst for the London Arc's key character Max Major is the tragic death of his friend, almost treating him like The Lost Lenore.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The numerous similarities with the Digimon anime (which only kept becoming more apparent in later episodes) lead to jokes that the series is a Digimon spin-off in all but name.
