YMMV / The Dragon's Pizzeria

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: For those who dislike Pico's Fanon portrayals which clash with official vanilla canon, the lore goes to great pains to reconcile his canon self and all the negative traits implied by it with the rest of the continuity, which ultimately ends in Kenji calling him out and giving him a much-needed ass-whooping.
  • Don't Shoot the Message: As was the case with the old draft of the HoloFunk story this fic was parented to, it intends to be a tribute to Aloe, but ultimately bungles its good intent by dramatizing the Real Life suffering of the original and having an Original Character (Narumi, who also happens to appeal to several of Kyou's tastes) swoop in to help fix it all up.
  • Fan-Disliked Explanation: The Broad Strokes of this fic's events were originally the diegetic explanation for 6.0.0's rewrites into a Lighter and Softer narrative, specifically Narumi and Kiryu's involvement. Considering both of those facets of the lore had already faced criticisms for taste issues (albeit for separate reasons), you can probably tell why such an explanation wasn't taken as having much of a leg to stand on.
  • Fandom Heresy: Mentioning this fic in a positive light will get ugly looks from fans of the main mod, who largely consider it to range from boring to terrible and borderline offensive in how it tries to pay respects.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The fic's main focus is about a member of Hololive's fifth generation getting a job at a pizzeria in a crime-oriented setting that features other VTubers outside the company. The previous sentence also describes part of the actual Shishiro Botan's VCR Grand Theft Auto Online streams in July 2023.
  • Protection from Editors: The fic's tags explicitly say the first few chapters were not ran by an editor, and Whitty's introduction superseded an Executive Veto. Its poor reception can be considered a product of this trope, as it exacerbates a number of pain points that the original HoloFunk story was already being criticized for.
  • The Scrappy: Narumi Midoriyama, despite being introduced as a Lovable Rogue, wound up with the opposite reception due to her inherent estrangement from official Hololive material and indulging in uncomfortable levels of Author Appeal that resonated destructively with her role as Aloe's best friend.
  • Tear Jerker:
