Fanfic / The Dragon's Pizzeria

Go To

Kazuma Kiryu, after faking his death and burying his old life for the sake of his loved ones, found himself running low on the cash he acquired in his time in the Yakuza clan, with a need to gain more income while keeping his "disappearance" up. With the resulting influence of the Kiryu Clan led by Coco, Kiryu was suddenly gifted a job opportunity under a new identity. Thus, Kiryu has been placed in charge of a pizza shop, who's employee's include: the succubus with a troubled backstory Aloe Mano, the neuro-divergent angel Kenji Tensei, Rich Bitch oni Karin Maki, and the delinquent fox-girl Chun Lushan.

The Dragon's Pizzeria was a Crossover fanfic made by KeatonHoshidanote , as partly supplementary material for HoloFunk, a Friday Night Funkin' mod primarily themed around Virtual Youtuber agency hololive.

The series would go on indefinite (later permanent) hiatus due to HoloFunk proper undergoing a massive Continuity Reboot in March 2022, which most of the fic was incompatible with. It was later deleted with the rest of all primary sources for the old lore.

Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 have been preserved on the Wayback Machine, and are available at the corresponding links.

This Fanfic contains the following tropes:

  • Canon Welding: By the nature of being a Fusion Fic of several different continuities, it converts them all into its own continuity. There's the Yakuza series, with Kazuma's story taking place after Yakuza 6, and the group from that game later becoming the high-profile gang that Kiryu Coco leads; the original Friday Night Funkin', which is established as both an in-universe game that's recursive with reality in the form of the Dearest Clan and Kenji, the former who's influence affected more than a few characters such as Aloe Mano and Dancho Tsume; several FNF mod characters featured (Whitmore, Carol, Tabi, AGOTI) were former bandmates of Hana/Girlfriend before Foregone Conclusion took effect to split them up; Amatsuka Uto grew up in the same school as Kenji and Kanata, and experienced the events of Pico's School; and there's the presence of other characters such as Nyamada, a literal imperfect clone of Nyanners.
  • Connected All Along: In the mod, Gura is fairly unconnected with the overall plot. Here, it is all but stated she is Coco's partner in founding the pizza franchise, which she serves as the CEO ofnote .
  • Corner of Woe: Aloe balls up into a corner to cry twice during the fic, first in Hibiki's room, and then underneath a tree. Both moments are interrupted by other people stopping by: Makoto Date in the first scene, and Narumi in the second.
  • Crossover: As this story focuses on the Alternate Continuity that is HoloFunk, it's naturally one for Friday Night Funkin' and hololive, alongside Yakuza and Pico. Several non-hololive vtubers show up, including a member of VShojo... sort of.
  • Crack Fic: By virtue of being acknowledged as a Weird Crossover. That doesn't stop the fic from taking itself seriously when it needs to, however.
  • Dark Fic: Though a Slice of Life story at its core, the fic's setting is a mix of the M-rated Yakuza series and the T-rated FNF, and does not hesitate to mix the tone of the former at its most serious and the levity of the latter when it feels it necessary.
  • Dead Fic: Cut Short with the rest of the lore bible it was supposed to be building up, with no plans by any involved to revisit it whatsoever.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Not by deliberate choice initially, but after meeting up with Hibiki's dad in an attempt to deliver the bad news regarding his daughter, Aloe took up the identity after being mistaken for her.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Cat Girl Nyamada ends up causing a serious ruckus upon literally melting from a stove fire accident, resulting in Blob Monsters akin to Nyanners' true form causing a ruckus. Said "Nyabominations" end up not only forcing the present employees to wrangle them up, but also trapping a few of the employees in nightmarish hallucinations.
  • The Dreaded: Momosuzu Nene of all people is viewed with fear by Narumi, with the implication that Rank Scales with Asskicking.
  • Driven to Suicide: Right after leaving the underworld, Aloe came across the corpse of a human girl named Hibiki Fukunaga, "who no longer wished to walk among the living."
  • Glamour Failure: Downplayed. Aloe's disguise is otherwise perfect, but Kazuma himself is able to see the imperfections the others might not; Aloe's hot pink hair shows through her completely blonde hair on the outer layer as an off-color sheen. Even when she changes her disguises hair color to black with purple highlights, her outer pink and inner blonde yellow hair still show up in a similar fashion.
  • Mind Rape: Getting trapped in the insides of the Nyabominations subjects it's victims to horrifying hallucinations. While Maki had a more comical vision involving Shrek chasing her off his swamp, Aloe and Kenji were subject to cruel re-experiences of their past: Aloe's adoptive father's death and Kenji breaking up with Pico.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Until a few chapters in, the tag "First few chapters aren't beta read" was instead written as "REAL YAKUZA DON'T BETA READ," referencing the "REAL YAKUZA USE A CONTROLLER" startup notice for PC versions of the Like a Dragon series.note
    • Kiryu's attire in the first chapter ("a white t-shirt under a blue jacket, some jeans, and a pair of boots"), is based on his appearance from the Japanese alpha build of Yakuza 6.
    • Kenji is described as rampaging through a violent mob with the fury of a gorilla, the same animal often used to describe Kanata's unusually-high grip strength.
    • Nyamada ends up in the pizzeria because someone confused her pronunciation of "visa" for "pizza."
    • Kenji and Hana's mutual friend, Carol, has the Affectionate Nickname "C-Roll," as in her mod's first song "Carol Roll."
    • Julian T. Whitmore (or rather, Jules M. Whitmore) finally gets that late-night snack he wanted in "Hungry," at the expense of his coworkers.
  • Roommate Com: One was set up between Narumi and Karin, who ended up bunking together after failing to properly check their separate housing documents.
  • Secret Identity: Both Aloe and Lushan had to adopt a new identity to avoid dealing with their past coming back to haunt them, with their respective identities being "Hibiki Fukunaga" and "Narumi Midoriyama". And Kiryu has one, due to this being set after he faked his death, on top of him keeping the fact that he's actually a dragon disguised as a human a secret from most people.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Early on, one of the tags on the story reads "Basically Aloe pulled an Armin Tamzarian."
    • Daddy Dearest keeps a stash of holy hand grenades for the express purpose of killing demons.
    • Turns out Kenji and Kiryu meeting up was fate, since Kenji's beatdown of Pico included at least two Yakuza-style Heat Actionsnote .
