  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Someone actually said to Bradley Nowell, "If it wasn't for date rape, I'd never get laid."
  • Broken Base: Due to new frontman Rome Ramirez. Most fans embraced Rome, the rest... not so much.
  • Covered Up:
  • Darker and Edgier: Robbin’ the Hood. While 40oz. to Freedom is known to be something of a party album and their self-titled is more polished and contains their most famous singles, Robbin’ the Hood is a raw, loose collection of mostly lo-fi jams, dubs and skits, all recorded in a crack den, that feels more like a mixtape than an actual album. The weird feel all throughout the album gives a real insight into Brad’s mental and physical state at the time, in particular his severe struggle with heroin addiction, no song more than Pool Shark which features the now hauntingly prophetic line: “one day I’m gonna lose the war”.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Ron Jeremy makes a cameo in the music video for "Date Rape" as a prison rapist. In 2020, Jeremy was charged with over 20 counts of sexual assault.
  • Misaimed Fandom: For "40 Oz. to Freedom", which is about how much of a drag it is to need alcohol to feel good.
  • Posthumous Popularity Potential: The Self-Titled Album, released without a lead single two months after Nowell died, is by far their most commercially successful one and contains most of the songs that get played on alternative rock radio. The album was already going to be their major-label debut, but Nowell's premature death added a somewhat mythical quality to it and, by extension, the band.
  • Refrain from Assuming: The song is called "Doin' Time", not "Summer Time".
  • Signature Song: "Date Rape" was the original, but "Santeria" and "What I Got" overtook it as time went on.
  • Tear Jerker: "Pool Shark", bonus points for the acoustic version. The song is about Bradley's heroin addiction, and how he'd "someday... lose the war".
  • Values Resonance: "April 29, 1992", a song about white people taking advantage of the LA Riots to engage in looting, makes a whole lot more sense after the looting and grifting connected to the riots rooted in 2020 and beyond.
