YMMV / Spidey and His Amazing Friends

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Patrick Stump's composition of the main opening theme marks a return to form for Spidey cartoons having catchy, decently long lyrical themes.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The Season 1 episode "Green Thumb" was centered around Spidey and Ms. Marvel trying to stop Green Goblin from using his Goblin Gauntlet to control the weather. Ironically, that episode premiered on the same day that in real life, the tropical storm that later became Hurricane Ida had officially intensified into a hurricane. The hurricane would later make landfall in Louisiana two days later on August 29, the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall in the said state. Ida would eventually cause flooding throughout much of the Northeastern United States (including New York City, where the show is set).
  • Moe: The Super-Deformed art style can't help but make everyone in the series (even the harsher-looking villains like Green Goblin) look small and adorable.
  • Spiritual Adaptation:
    • Due to the Super-Deformed character designs, the show being targeted for a Preschool audience, and it featuring other Marvel superheroes besides Spider-Man and anyone else related to him, Spidey and His Amazing Friends is probably the closest we'll ever get to a cartoon show for the old Spider-Man & Friends toyline.
    • This series' concept and general art designs follow in the footsteps of Marvel Superhero Adventures. That series of educational shorts featured Spidey teaming up with different Marvel Heroes. Notably, both series were co-developed by Atomic Cartoons.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Given the demographic this show aiming for, it was quite a surprise to see Kamala Khan be a member of the extended cast. Definitely was so for Black Panther and the Hulk, who aren't typically characters closely linked with Spider-Man.
    • The third season is confirmed to have The Thing as part of the cast. This is surprising to older Marvel fans, as this is the first acknowledgment of the Fantastic Four in animated Marvel media since Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.. Promotional artwork for season 3 also shows that H.E.R.B.I.E will also appear as well.
    • Watered down he may be, it was more than a shock to see the likes of Armin Zola in this show.
