  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Jeremy Piven would later go on to play the Dean Bitterman character in Old School nearly a decade later, basically turning into what he was opposed to here.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The movie's college social landscape was based on its contemporary setting of The '90s, where concerns of Political Overcorrectness were part of mainstream consciousness. As such, centrist and apolitical The Pit showing a carefree and dismissive attitude towards feminists and LGBT groups wouldn't be seen in a negative light by contemporary audiences. While some of it is played for humor and fear of political correctness is still present today, "Bisexual Asian Studies" wouldn't be as far-fetched now as the studies of LGBT in different cultural contexts has been considered recently even if pushing out an important department would be going overboard.
    • Furthermore, as stated in the article, the idea of college students taking an extra fifth year for fun had been rare in the United States due to rising tuition costs.
    • Groups like Balls and Shafts—the parodic Expy to Skulls and Bones and other societies for rich (mostly white) college students—would have been changed after The New '10s with most of its new entrants including LGBT and non-white students along with the group's ideology leaning towards left and progressive policies.
  • Values Resonance: While the film's tackling the issues on political correctness is up for debate, the film's plot on Balls and Shafts (a group of young conservative students) using the Pit's protests on political correctness—not to mention the inept and self-righteous President Garcia leading the policies—to fulfill their bigoted agenda became a reflection of current time's alt-right tactics of using the facade of seemingly reasonable concerns on the unsuspecting and uninformed audience to promote their causes.
