YMMV / Necromunda: Hired Gun

Go To

  • Funny Moments: The mere fact that the Bounty Hunter always summons their terrifying and deadly Cyber-Mastiff by squeezing his favorite squeaky toy is a pretty hilarious bit of Mood Dissonance in what's otherwise a rather dour game.
  • Memetic Mutation: "OPEN THIS RUST DAMN DOOR!"Explanation
"OPEN THIS RUST DAMN GOD DAMN FUCK DAMN SHIT DAMN CRAP DAMN DICK DAMN ZOG DAMN DAMN DAMN ASS DAMN FIREWARRIOR DAMN BALLS DAMN FUCKIN' DOOR!"
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: Downplayed at first, but later played much more straightforward as patches have come out. The gameplay itself is a major step up from Space Hulk: Deathwing in a solid first-person shooter experience, the RPG Elements are well-implemented, and the Underhive itself is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the game was on the unstable side at launch, with numerous technical issues that lent itself to lag and outright crashes on a semi-regular basis. Fortunately, the developers have rolled out a number of patches that have fixed most of these issues.
  • Scrappy Weapon: As impressively damaging as they are, plasma weapons have such a low missile velocity (as in, the speed of the actual plasma bolt) that they're not the most useful in the game's frenzied, high-intensity combat arenas.
  • So Okay, It's Average: This seems to have become the consensus around the game; While it's far from awful (being rather beautiful, having intense and fun First-Person Shooter combat focused around maneuverability, and creatively complex environments that reward exploration), the somewhat Obvious Beta status of the game along with the story being a confusing Kudzu Plot and the enemies suffering from Artificial Stupidity more often than not likely helps explain the generally "meh" critical and audience reception the game has received (though granted, audience reception has improved over time with more bug fixes released by the developers).
  • Ugly Cute: Once cybered up, the Mastiff is quite intimidating to look at, but outside battle he's still an affectionate Big Friendly Dog always open to being petted by his beloved master.
