• Fridge Brilliance: If you look closely, you'll notice that Douglas tends to be situated on the left side of the screen while Kramer is often seen on the right side. For example, the scene when they meet on Air Force One, from the perspective of the audience, Douglas sits in the left seat and Kramer in the right. Douglas is a Democrat, which is the mainstream left wing of American politics, while Kramer is a Republican, the right wing.
• Harsher in Hindsight: The jokes about President Douglas' promiscuity are a lot harder to watch now that President Bill Clinton, who Douglas is modeled after, is more or less acknowledged to have committed sexual misconduct before, during, and after his presidency.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: Yes, yes, the Army could use a few of those gals. The Army probably did use a few of those gals when they were questioning or closeted. But now, they are free to serve openly!
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Bradley Whitford doing a "run and talk" with President Haney two years before the Walk and Talk became its own trademark trope.
• Questionable Casting: While she was close friends with James Garner in Real Life, casting Lauren Bacall as the wife of Jack Lemmon can be a serious headscratcher, given her screen persona has always been noticeably tougher than Lemmon's, making it harder to believe them as a married couple, much less a President and his First Lady.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Conchata Ferrell as the truck driver who turns out to be holding illegal immigrants.
  • Michael Peña as Ernesto, the immigrant Kramer gifts his watch to.
  • Bradley Whitford as Carl Witnaur, post-Billy Madison but pre-West Wing.
• Values Resonance: While Ralph Fleming is initially seen playing up the Camp Gay as Dorothy in the gay pride parade, him turning out to be the literal Chekhov's Gunman who saves Kramer and Douglas at the climax stands out considerably well, given the fact that other movies in 1996 would have still had him as solely a joke (if they mentioned his sexuality at all).
