YMMV / Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Go To

  • Awesome Music: This is one of the rare occurances in a DDR game where the whole game consists of remixed tracks with the exception of End Credits. Some of the more notable tracks include "Here We Go!", "Underground Mozart", "Jump! Jump! Jump!", "Blooper Bop", and "Bowser's Castle".
  • Designated Villain: The Freezie in World 4. Toad tries to reason with it to get the Music Key back, but gets no response, since Freezies don't talk. He then says that the only way Mario can get the Music Key back is to kill the Freezie, which comes off as massive Disproportionate Retribution for being ignored, especially since the Freezie is the only boss in the game who doesn't actively antagonize Mario and Toad.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: Big-time players of the main series might have this reaction. The game has special steps (in the form of Koopas, Bob-ombs, etc) not found in any other DDR game, but overall the game is still generally easier than the main series. For reference, even the very hardest song in the game is about on par with a high end 8 or mid-low range 9 (12 on the new DDR scale) in mainstream DDR.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!'s outro songnote  includes the lyrics "swing your arms from side to side", which the live actors actually do in the show's intro. Mario and Luigi would be doing exactly that in this game's first song "Here We Go!"note  and during the credits.
  • Memetic Badass: As if he hadn’t proven to be one already, Bowser shows off he’s got some killer dance moves.
  • Memetic Mutation: The Here We Go! theme due to the Hilarious in Hindsight reasons.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: The saving graces of this game are its soundtrack and familiar DDR elements, not its story.
  • Self-Imposed Challenge: Playing with a regular GameCube controller. Like all home console DDR games, the included DDR pad is just mapped to buttons on a GCN controller, so using one works just as fine. However, doing jumps may take some getting used to
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Waluigi appeared to be touted as a main villain in the game's intro if not the only main villain but come the story mode and he gets shoved aside after the first world.
