YMMV / Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

Go To

  • Cult Classic: Was originally panned in America and saw little release, but was praised in Europe and was re-released there to great acclaim and a cult following.
    • The French movie The Nest can be seen as tribute to this movie.
  • Dawson Casting: Reference is made to "the juvenile gang problem", and Street Thunder is further referred to as a "youth gang", yet all its members appear to be in their 20s at least.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The film was a bigger hit in Britain than it was in America, largely because British audiences understood and enjoyed the film's similarities to American Westerns, whereas U.S. audiences were too familiar with the Western genre to fully appreciate the movie.

  • Moral Event Horizon: The Street Thunder members cross it when one of them shoots and kills a little girl point blank just because she was there.
  • Memetic Mutation: "I want a vanilla twist!" *SHOT*
  • What an Idiot!: Lawson makes a couple of remarkably stupid decisions:
    • After the ice cream truck shooting, he could have telephoned the police from the phone box right next to his car. Instead, he goes chasing off after a car full of armed killers.
    • Having chased the car full of killers until after sunset, he finally confronts them and manages to kill one. Instead of driving off in his car (which is not shown to have been damaged), he runs away.
    • For their part, three of the car full of armed killers run away run away from Lawson instead of gunning him down. Perhaps they could have worked out a plan in all the time they spent driving around?
