* MagnificentBastard: Napoleon Wilson is a snarky, yet honorable, convict on death row for murder. Forced to work with some officers to defend their station from a siege of gangsters, Wilson happily obliges, putting his skills to good work as he helps take down every gangster he sees. Abiding by a code that sees him refusing to abandon the cops to their fate, Wilson's able to warn everybody about the gangsters' deceptive tactics, while charming the officers into forming a genuine friendship with him as they all survive the night.

explanation doesn't make sense; both audiences are familiar but this familiarity caused Brits to like the movie and Americans to dislike it?

* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The film was a bigger hit in Britain than it was in America, largely because British audiences understood and enjoyed the film's similarities to American Westerns, whereas U.S. audiences were too familiar with the Western genre to fully appreciate the movie.

* WhatAnIdiot: Lawson makes a couple of remarkably stupid decisions:
** After the ice cream truck shooting, he could have telephoned the police from the phone box right next to his car. Instead, he goes chasing off after a car full of armed killers.
** Having chased the car full of killers until after sunset, he finally confronts them and manages to kill one. Instead of driving off in his car (which is not shown to have been damaged), he runs away.
*** Granted, those can be easily explained away by Lawson REALLY not being in the [[DespairEventHorizon best frame of mind]].
** For their part, three of the car full of armed killers run away run away from Lawson instead of gunning him down. Perhaps they could have worked out a plan in all the time they spent driving around?
