aka: Freddy Fox

Go To

Simon & Freddy is a comedy webcomic created by Hukley in 2013 revolving around the misadventures of Freddy Fox (a red fox) and Simon (his owner.)

The strips, which were formerly available on a dedicated website under the name "Freddy Fox", can also be seen on the artist's social media accounts, including FurAffinity in German and English.

"Simon & Freddy" contains examples of:

  • Art Evolution: The visuals of the later strips have a more textured look that make frequent usage of shading, with a more realistic sense of perspective and nuanced use of color.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: In "Houston, We Have a Problem", the last panel shows Melvin the snake being able to breathe perfectly fine without any space equipment in sight.
  • Bird-Poop Gag: Subverted in the 92nd strip; Freddy is seen strutting on the sidewalk when, all of a sudden, he manages to avoid getting what seems to be bird poop on him. The last panel reveals that the bird was eating a melting ice-cream cone instead.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: In the 64th strip, the only part of Cathy the cat that can be seen during her nocturnal prey hunt are her eyes for three panels... until she gets her tongue caught in a mouse trap, waking up Angie in the process.
  • Crossover Cameo: Characters from other series have shown up in two of the strips:
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: In Revitalizing, the magic words Freddy uses to (temporarily) bring Morty the Ghost Mouse back to life are "Kyk agter jou, 'n drie-koppige aap!", which translates to "Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!" in Afrikaans.
  • Guest Strip: The 2014 halloween strip features artwork by Stu.
  • Halloween Episode: There have been three Halloween strips so far:
  • Kangaroos Represent Australia: Kody the Kangaroo; his dialogue tends to be written in an Funetik Australian Aksent (with an occasional "mate" or two.)
  • "Mission: Impossible" Cable Drop: In the 72nd strip (called "Mission Impossible"), Freddy tries to snatch Simon's sandwich via lowering himself with a cable tied to his body, but the latter cuts it with a pair of scissors and says "Nice try... better luck next time!"
  • Mix And Match Creature: Emperor Diss' character profile page describes him as a squirrel-tsune, which is a cross between a squirrel and a kitsune.
  • Mouse Trap: Cathy the cat ends up getting her tongue caught by one of these during her attempt to catch some prey in Fearsome Predator.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: In one strip, Damien the Dingo gets distracted from teaching the squirrels about crocodiles by a ball that Kody the kangaroo was tossing. He naturally isn't too happy about this.
  • Piano Drop: In Showtime 2, Cathy the cat ends up getting a piano dropped onto her (which, according to the narrator, is more likely than getting set on fire, water damage, or electrocution) as a consequence for not closing a bottle of toxic fluids.
  • Rapid-Fire Name Guessing: In "What Was Her Name Again?", Bea the Australian flying fox recalls seeing a "priddy powerful pomeranian" at the last Psycon, who she thinks might have some golden unicorn roots. She attempts to think about what the latter's name is, but fails and ultimately gives up on doing so.
Bea: Hmmm, oi met a priddy powerful pomeranian at the last Psycon. Maybe oi could ask her if she 'as any... Hmmm, what wazzer name again? Harot? No... Sharot? Nah... Carrot? Ah, stuff it... Oi suck at names...
  • Shout-Out: A few examples:
  • Sssssnake Talk: Steve and Melvin, being snakes, draw out the "S" sounds in their dialogue.
  • The Unintelligible: Tatum the tarantula only speaks by making purring noises.
