WMG / Transformers: EarthSpark

Go To

New versions of Sari and Lugnut from Transformers Animated will show up.

  • Considering how much Earthspark is about Transformers finding their place on Earth and trying to fit in to human society while facing discrimination and a first gen of 'Terran' Transformers consider Earth their home. Sari feels like a perfect wrinkle there since it ask the question Where does someone who's half human/half Cybertronian find themselves in such a tumulus society that's far from friendly to Cybertronians and Transformers in general.

  • Lugnut meanwhile, could be really interesting as a character. In Animated, he was unwaveringly loyal to Megatron and assuming that trait carries over, how does he react to Megs being an Autobot? Does he tow the line and follow his 'glorious leader' to the other side? Does he still hold contempt for the Autobots but swallow it down in order to please the person he idolizes? I'd love to see how that plays out.

There will be a Shattered Glass arc involving Megatron getting sent to a mirrorverse and leading their Decepticons to battle once. This experience allows Megs to reconnect with versions of his allies and reminds him that there's good not just in him but potentially all the Cons. Even Soundwave, Shockwave, and Starscream.

  • It could also show an inverse of what we normally see, with Transfomers ruling Earth and oppressing/discriminating against humans.

If the Dinobots appear in this series, they'll be Terrans made on Earth rather than native Cybertronians.
It just makes sense for the Dinobots to be Terrans since their alternate modes are ancient Earth animals. Not to mention it would be a neat Call-Back to the Dinobots' origin in the original G1 cartoon where they were made on Earth.
  • Other Transformers based on animals (Scorponok, the Seacons, the non-Beast-Wars Predacons, some of the Insecticons, and, as stated below, the Beast Wars Maximals and Predacons) could also fit.
  • Partly Jossed: Grimlock was in the flashbacks to Cybertron, though there may be an Unreliable Narrator.

The main war between the Autobots and Decepticons is over by the time the show starts.
The Decepticons in the show are the scattered remains of Megatron's forces and are secretly rebuilding to launch a new war on Earth.
  • Confirmed. According to the series' entry on Nick.com, the war concluded years ago.

Some of the Maximals and Predacons will make an appearance, reimagined as Terrans.
With their alt-modes being based on Earth animals, the Maximals and Predacons would be created on Earth by the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively, to help bolster their forces.
  • So far, Tarantulas has been confirmed to appear in the second batch of episodes releasing in March, though it doesn't seem like he'll be a Terran.
    • Jossed on the Terran aspect, Tarantulas is a straight up Decepticon.

If Soundwave and Thundercracker appear in this series, they'll undergo a Heel–Face Turn like they did in the IDW comics.
Thundercracker's original toy bio was that he was the Decepticon who didn't really believe that what the Decepticons were doing was right, but only IDW ever utilized this idea and he was portrayed as one of Starscream's goons alongside Skywarp everywhere else. Bringing this aspect of Thundercracker's character into the show would give him some depth compared to his other on-screen appearances.

With Soundwave, as he is considered Megatron's most loyal soldier, we never quite see him question Megatron's orders. By giving him some of his backstory from the IDW comics, such as his seeking equality for all Transformers being the reason he joined Megatron, and then having him question and maybe betray Megatron over a controversial decision (though not quite joining the Autobots), we could have one of the most unique on-screen appearances of Soundwave in recent years.

Adding to the above, Soundwave and Thundercracker could change their names and appearances to ones reminiscent of earlier Autobots when they change factions.
Soundwave would obviously become Blaster/Twincast, and Thundercracker could become:
  • Jetfire/Skyfire
  • One of the Aerialbots
  • Powerglide
  • Jetstorm
  • Windblade (they're typically a woman, but they've changed some Transformers' genders before IIRC)
  • Storm Jet
  • Star Saber
  • Brainstorm
  • Overcast
  • Meteorfire
  • Strafe
  • Scattershot

If Jetfire/Skyfire shows up...
... He'll either have a mask/helmet that looks like the original toy's face and boosters that can attach to him like on the toy and look like how he did in the G1 cartoon without them, or Jetfire and Skyfire will be separate characters, with one's appearance based on the G1 toy's and the other's on the G1 cartoon's.

Wreck-Gar and the other Junkions could show up here as Terrans
The G1 Junkions love Earth pop culture and Animated Wreck-Gar (IIRC) came from Earth, so he and the other Junkions would work great as Terrans.

Witwicky is secretly Metroplex or another Cityformer/Titan
It's a small town, but remember: the tagline of Transformers is "Robots in DISGUISE." A huge, powerful robot that turns into a massive, futuristic city would have a good reason to want to disguise itself as a small, inconspicuous one.

Soundwave is the leader of a Renegade Splinter Faction of Decepticons
Since Megatron and most 'Cons seem to be on amiable terms with the Autobots, the Great War possibly ended in a non-agression truce, while both factions settled on Earth, which is how Dot is familiar with him. Meanwhile, Soundwave and his loyalists oppose the truce, because they feel it invalidates the millions of years they spent fighting, so after building his forces, he declares both Autobots and Megatron's Decepticons as enemies. Maybe Soundwave and Dr. Meridian have Teeth-Clenched Teamwork where the Sound-Cons aid Meridian in hunting down Cybertronians, in exchange for Meridian sparing them from his plans.

Starscream is the Wild Card of the series.
With Megatron allying with Optimus and the Autobots in opposition to Soundwave and the other Decepticons, Starscream could be plotting behind everyone's back (as he usually does), playing and/or sabotaging both sides to seize more power for himself. Of course, how well it works depends on how privy everyone is to Starscream's trickery at this point.

The new leader of the Decepticons is Galvatron.
In this continuity, Megatron and Galvatron are seperate individuals rather than the same bot and Galvatron took over the disgruntled Decepticon forces after Optimus and Megatron reached a truce and ended the war.
  • Alternatively, in relation to the aforementioned guesses about the Beast Wars characters, the Beast-Wars Megatron could be their leader, having been inspired by his counterpart's past deeds of conquest and taking claim of his name, aiming to prove himself as the "true" Megatron.

Alternatively, if Megatron turns evil at some point, he'll become Galvatron.

Megatron will remain on the side of good for the whole series

With the confirmed inclusion of Skullcruncher, characters who were originally Headmasters will appear as normal Transformers.
  • If the Horrorcons, Apeface and Snapdragon, appear on the show, they will be Triple-Changers with Earth-based fighter jet and beast modes.

Points for when the Autobot-Decepticon War ended
  • Note: these dates could also double as references to certain points in Transformers history.
    • 1996 (the year that Beast Wars premiered, which also takes place long after the end of the Great War)
    • 2005 (the year the war ended in The Transformers: The Movie)
    • 2007 (in reference to both Transformers: Animated and the first live-action movie)
      • It's revealed in "Security Protocols" that the war ended fifteen years prior to the start of Earthspark. If we are to assume Earthspark takes place in 2022, then that means 2007 is the likely choice.
    • Somewhere between 2011 and 2013 (referencing the run of Transformers: Prime, which ended with Megatron disbanding the Decepticons and ending their side of the war)

Unicron will show up in the future.

The current Decepticon leader will be someone who has been Decepticon leader in other media.
The current Decepticon leader will be;
  • Soundwave
  • Starscream
  • Shockwave
  • Scorponok
  • Bludgeon
  • Ratbat
  • Steeljaw
  • Liege Maximo
  • Jhiaxus
  • Straxus
  • Thunderwing
  • Galvatron
  • The Decepticon Triumvirate
  • Overlord
  • Devil-Z
  • Deathsaurus
    • In Deathsaurus's case, he'd probably have to go by a different name, maybe something like DOOM-saurus or Dezarus, because let's be honest here; Nickelodeon is NEVER going to put a character with the word "DEATH" in his name in a show meant for children.
    • Htaedsaurus or Hatedsaurus both are anagrams of Death.
  • Tarn
Soundwave had some sort of falling out with Megatron
Most versions of Soundwave are their universe's Megatron's ultra-loyal right-hand man, but here Soundwave's fighting against Megatron (at least at the start; they might join forces later). Since Soundwave doesn't seem like the type to turn on his leader, perhaps he was betrayed by Megatron or Megatron made a decision that made Soundwave disillusioned enough with him to leave.
There is a GI-Joe and Cobra in this universe
It's practically tradition at this point for Transformers and GI-Joe to share a universe or have close ties to each other. But there is evidence to support this. In Episode 1 there is a crate with MARS on it. It could be just a simple easter egg...but the alternative is far cooler.

Galvatron will be a Brainwashed and Crazy Megatron
The Decepticons will capture and reprogram him back into the ruthless Decepticon leader he once was.

Galvatron will be a time-traveler
At some point, the Decepticons will accept that their former leader is no more and instead try to replace him with a past Decepticon leader, that being Galvatron.

Starscream played a role Megatron's Heel–Face Turn
When Megatron started questioning if the war was justified, Starscream saw an opportunity. So, he encouraged Megatron to form a truce with the Autobots, which branded him a traitor to the Deception cause, allowing Starscream the chance to become leader.

At least one of the Terrans will join the Decepticons
Be it one that agrees more with the 'Cons on principal more than the Autobots, joins as part of a goodwill effort to mend ties between 'Bots and 'Cons, or G.H.O.S.T ends up being Evil All Along and any goodwill between humans and Cybertronians breaks down. If it's the later, Megatron may also go back to his old role as Decepticon leader, seeing as Optimus's grand Human-Cybertronian alliance may no longer happen.

As for which Terran may join the 'Cons, this Troper is unsure. Maybe learning more about the three new Terrans might make a potential 'Con outliner show up.

There's more to Bumblebee's trip from Cybertron to Earth that there seems
During the flashback sequence in Secret Legacy it's explicitly told by Alex that Bee remained behind on Cybertron before then joining the rest of the 'Bots on Earth. It seems odd that the show would take the time to establish that when it doesn't add anything to the plot of the episode or to the backstory of the Transformers. While this could just Alex giving more time to his favourite 'Bot, he already did that before this segment and established his bias. Plus, him being a history professor means he wouldn't willingly spread misinformation; simplify and water stuff down to match his kid audience yes, but not mislead.

This leads this troper to believe that scene was put there deliberately for more than just padding or adding more Bee to an episode. As to why, I have a few theories:

  • It may just be a continuation of the G1 themed flashback. There were many times in the original cartoon where 'Bots were inexplicably in places they shouldn't be for the sake of the plot; this could simply be a reference to that.
  • Bumblebee came to Earth, but not via the Spacebridge. The question of how he got here will be asked and it turns out there's another link between Cybertron and Earth that 'Bee took. This could add further depth as to why Optimus is keeping Bumblebee a secret, especially since the destruction of the Spacebridge was what helped end the war and lead to Megatron's reformation.
  • The Bumblebee seen on Earth this whole time is not the real Bumblebee. If Quintus Prime is playing a part in this cartoon, maybe the other primes are too; could the original shifter Amalgamous Prime have taken his form to pull some strings? Or even Liege Maximo? The real Bumblebee is still on Cybertron, trapped there from the Spacebridge's destruction for decades while the imposter impersonates him to this day. Expect a mountain of angst from Optimus when he finds out he inadvertently abandoned and trapped his old friend for years.

Bumblebee's T-cog was stolen
There are at least two points in the "Home" two-parter where Bee tries to transform but can't (once when he's fighting Brawl and tries to activate his stingers, and again at the end when he tries to go to alt-mode and passes out). The fact that the writers established what T-cog is in "Outtakes" also suggests that it's going to be important eventually.

Ideas for the alt-mode Jawbreaker will choose
  • After Elita-1 mentioned that they can be more than just vehicles, there could be a chance that he will scan an animal or inanimate object for his alt-mode.
    • Maybe he will take the form of a gumball machine (which can also contain jawbreakers).
    • Alternatively, he might become a Dinobot.
      • CONFIRMED! Jawbreaker scans the fossilized remains of a dinosaur and becomes a Stygimoloch in his alt-mode.

Optimus will perform a Heroic Sacrifice, only to come back to life not too long after
It's practically a requirement in most Transformers media, and this should be no different.

The World-Healing Wave ends up creating more Terrans, including this series version of the Terrorcons

Mandroid becomes or gets cloned into Galvatron
Mandroid is definitely the Xanatos Gambit type & more than likely ran into Unicron during his year plus off Earth. Alternatively, while torturing Megatron, he could have easily copied his specs to give himself a backup should anything happen to him.

Special Agent Croft lost her partner to the Transformers' war
Croft was married (explaining why she has a different surname then her brother), and lost her partner in an Autobot/Decepticon battle, which is why she hated them so much.

Croft and Schloder had different fathers
They have different surnames because they're half-siblings, each has their own father's surname.

Contact with Cybertron will be re-established in the second season
It will turn out that the war is still ongoing there, with Rodimus Prime and Galvatron leading the two factions.

Terrans run on a less ghastly form of Biofuel.
The Terrans cannot consume Energon, instead being fueled by a mysterious substance found in the waters of the cave they were created in; beings that do run on Energon gain no benefit from this water. In Transformers: Last Bot Standing, the concept of Biofuel was introduced. Transformers that are configured to run on Biofuel cannot consume Energon, and vice-versa. Quintus may have designed the Terrans to run on organic matter because of how plentiful it is on Earth, and to keep them from having to fight their predecessors over scarce deposits of Energon. However, considering this is a kids show, this version of Biofuel probably does not involve Human Resources; more likely, it is derived from algae or other small organic beings found naturally in water.

Mandroid was modified by the quintessons during his space trip
Perhaps voluntarily, perhaps not. Maybe he turned on them and liberated sharkticons, or maybe he was with the quintessons who were posing as some kind of liberators to the sharkticons.

The quintessons will appear in season 2
It'd be very weird if they didn't, since Quintus Prime and the sharkticons are also there. Maybe they're the oppressors who the Decepticons originally rebelled against?

Yes, the Autobots and the Decepticons haven't told the humans or the terrans about the quintessons. But they also kept the existence of T-cogs from humans...

Quintus Prime will turn out to be dubious

Shockwave only worked with the Maltos because it was the most logical course of action, with the threat G.H.O.S.T and Mandroid posed to him and the other Decepticons. He'll go back to being an antagonist in season 2

The Quintessons will be the main antagonists of season 2, and will be portrayed as Evil Counterparts to the Terrans
The Quintessons are teased quite a bit in the finale, with the Sharkticons and Mandroid's weird multi-head-windowed cyborg form. They're a logical foil to the Terrans, both being tied to Quintus Prime, and the Quintessons being stubborn and dictatorial where the Terrans are open and caring.

The Quintessons will be shown having conquered Cybertron in the absence of Optimus and Megatron, with Ultra Magnus leading a resistance composed mostly of characters from The Transformers: The Movie.

Mr. Smelt is a human disguised Knock Out
Largely based on the fact that Mr. Smelt and Knock Out share a voice actor, but also because Smelts over the top dramatics are similar to Knock Outs. Similarly thanks to Tarantulas its shown that human augmenting tech does exist in universe. How Knock Out may have attained this technology is an open question, though its possible he may have stolen it from another source. Potentially even Tarantulas himself, forcing the other decepticon to make a new one using a mix of cybertronian and human tech whereas the hypothetical one Knock Out theoretically stole was entirely cybertronian in nature. Why Knock Out would opt to hide out as a human and even assume the role of a teacher is another open question.
