- Actor Leaves, Character Dies: The first film has Io being resurrected at the very end to live Happily Ever After with Perseus...only for the sequel to open with him at her grave. Gemma Arterton did not want to return for the sequel and rather than creating The Other Darrin for a second lead character, they just killed her off.
- Franchise Killer: A sequel for the film, titled Revenge of the Titans was in production, and the plot would have involved the resurrection of the gods. However, it was later scrapped, due to the poor reception of this film, despite it breaking even at the box office.
- The Other Darrin:
- Rosamund Pike replaces Alexa Davalos as Andromeda.
- Ares was a minor background character in the first film, played by Tamer Hassan. In this sequel where he has a larger role, he's played by Édgar Ramírez.
- Star-Derailing Role: Sam Worthington was a rising star for a few years in the advent of Avatar. After this, his star went out. However, a sequel to Avatar may prove a Career Resurrection for him.
- What Could Have Been:
- Gemma Arterton was slated to return as Io, but was busy with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, nor did she particularly enjoy the first film, and the writers opted to just kill of Io rather than recast her too.
- Javier Bardem was considered for Ares, and James Franco for Agenor.
- Hayley Atwell was considered for Andromeda.
- As mentioned above, a third film titled Revenge of the Titans was planned, but the film was ultimately not made due to poor reception and a lack of ideas for a script.
