- Ability over Appearance: The Von Erichs were a family of very large men, and while the actors portraying them put on the requisite amount of muscle, they're playing people who were, on average, six inches taller. Based on the strength of the performance, and the fact that they're all in scale with each other, only the most die-hard wrestling fans have complained.
- Approval of God: Kevin Von Erich stated his satisfaction with Zac Efron's portrayal of him.
- California Doubling: The Dallas-set film was filmed in Baton Rouge.
- Cast the Expert:
- MJF has a brief cameo as Lance Von Erich/Ricky Vaughn and also serves as an Executive Producer.
- Chavo Guerrero Jr. plays The Original Sheik, as well as serving as a wrestling consultant.
- Ryan Nemeth, younger brother of Dolph Ziggler and also a wrestler himself, has a minor role as Gino Hernandez.
- Indy wrestler Brady Pierce has a minor role as Michael "P.S." Hayes.
- National Wrestling Alliance star Silas Mason has a minor role as Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy.
- James Beard, a real life wrestling referee also plays one in the film.
- Disowned Adaptation: Despite being overall happy with the film, Kevin Von Erich's only gripe is the rather negative portrayal of his father Fritz. Kevin would then repeatedly describe his late father as a good man.
- Fake American: Harris Dickinson and Lily James are Brits playing Texans.
- Fake Nationality: Chavo Guerrero Jr., a Mexican-American man, plays Ed "The Sheik" Farhat, who was Lebanese-American. Amusingly, neither of these men are Syrian, which was the Sheik's Kayfabe nationality.
- Irony as She Is Cast: Harris Dickinson, the main cast member with the most Professional Wrestling (or at least WWE) knowledge, plays a character who is the first to die.
- Promoted Fanboy: Harris Dickinson actually watched WWE during its Ruthless Aggression and PG Eras, mentioning in an interview of watching a SmackDown show in the UK back in 2009.
- Reality Subtext: David Von Erich was universally considered to be the most well-rounded and experienced performer of the Von Erich brothers. He's played by Harris Dickinson, who watched WWE when growing up and the only main cast member who has any form of knowledge about Professional Wrestling.
