Trivia / Sonic for Hire

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Of all the voice actors for the series, co-creator Mike Parker has the most roles out of them, being the voice of Tails, Eggman, Kirby, Soniqua, Knuckles, and Thunderhead.
    • Alex Bernstein voices both Earthworm Jim and Mother Brain.
    • Clint Gage provided the voice of both Mario and Link.
  • Channel Hop: The show was originally uploaded on Machinima's official YouTube channel before moving to Rooster Teeth following the former's shutdown in 2019. Lowbrow Studios then got the rights back around 2021 and reuploaded the series onto their YouTube account.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Mother Brain is voiced by Alex Bernstein.
    • Soniqua is voiced by Mike Parker.
  • Descended Creator: Creators Micheal William and Mike Parker both lend their voices to various characters throughout the series. Among the main/recurring cast, William voices Sonic while Parker voices Tails, Eggman, Kirby, Soniqua, Knuckles, and Thunderhead.
  • Defictionalization: According to Word of God, the programmer was planning on making a "Super Italian Laborer Town" if they were good at programming.
  • Network to the Rescue: After Machinima's abrupt shutdown and removal of all of their content, Sonic For Hire was picked up by Rooster Teeth (along with a host of other Machinima shows) and renewed for an eighth season.
  • Release Date Change:
    • Season 8 (otherwise known as "Hedgehog For Hire") was originally planned to premiere in late 2018, and later January 2019. It wouldn't be until March 2019 that it was released.
    • Season 9 ("Sonic Goes to College") was originally planned to premiere in early 2022, but got pushed down to November 2022 instead, reportedly because production took longer than anticipated due to the creators extending the usual episode lengths.
  • Sequel Gap: More like "Season Gap," but the eighth season premiered in 2019, less than six years after the finale of the seventh season. Though in this case, the gap is justified because Season 7 was originally supposed to be the series finale.
  • Screwed by the Network: There was a slight decline in viewers due to Machinima moving the series to its "Happy Hour Channel".
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: When the series got revived by Rooster Teeth, the series had to be renamed "Hedgehog for Hire" to avoid legal trouble (specifically with Warner Bros). When Lowbrow Studios regained the rights to the series, however, they reverted back to the original title.
  • Shrug of God: The creators tend to act like this towards questions involving their series.
  • Uncredited Role: Due to the lack of any actual credits, nobody working on the show are properly credited for the series.
  • Word of God:
    • According to Lowbrow Studios, Dr. Wily survived in "The Battle: Part 2," but he had "one hell of a head injury."
    • If you subscribe to their Facebook page, they sometimes post about (as if Sonic was typing the status) various things that happen outside of the episodes. Between Season 3 and 4, Sonic got into a serious crack addiction, which is mentioned in the first episode of Season 4. What does Sonic do after Tails treats him like shit at Burger Time? He smokes crack in the bathroom, burns the place down, and steals Knuckles's moped for crack money.
