Trivia / P!nk

  • Awesome, Dear Boy: The "Try" video was her favourite to film, because of the dance she performed.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: "Just Like Fire" was written to tie in with Alice Through the Looking Glass. The film was a rather big Box Office Bomb, but "Just Like Fire" was a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over a million copies in the United States. Many would be surprised to learn that the song was created for the movie.
  • Career Resurrection: Try This wasn't particularly successful or noteworthy. The follow-up album I'm Not Dead and its lead single "Stupid Girls" was noted to revive interest in her music again.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Her debut album. It made her famous, but she never really wanted to perform R&B music. Nowadays she only performs three songs from it live, and only as part of a medley. "You make me sick," indeed.
    • Her 2000 single "Most Girls" seems to be this, perhaps due to its more cookie-cutter, pop/R&B crossover sound. It seems to be entirely omitted from Greatest Hits collections despite being a top five hit.
    • Try This. Only "Trouble" gets consistent live performances now, with "God Is a DJ" getting some love from her in countries where it was a bigger hit. Otherwise, she pretends the album and period never happened.
    • In her own words about showing up in a SpongeBob SquarePants special and singing a song about Scurvy "I wish I never did that. That was a real mistake."
  • Dye Hard: In her early appearances, she had pink hair to go with her name. Nowadays it comes and goes.
  • Executive Meddling: Pink was originally signed as part of the girl group Choice, but L.A. Reid was only interested in her and told her point-blank that it was either go solo or go home. The group disbanded immediately, having only recorded one song "Key To My Heart" (which appeared on the Kazaam soundtrack). She calls him out for this in "Don't Let Me Get Me."
  • He Also Did:
    • Two of her biggest hits, "Just Like A Pill" and "Get The Party Started," were written by Linda Perry, former frontwoman of 4 Non Blondes who had a huge hit in 1994 with "What's Up?". It was the success of this collaboration that inspired Christina Aguilera to hire Perry to write "Beautiful" for her.
    • P!nk herself co-wrote (along with Shellback and mega-producer Max Martin) "Whataya Want From Me" for Adam Lambert.
  • Real-Life Relative:
    • "Just Give Me A Reason"'s video features her husband Carey Hart. He also cameos in the "True Love" video.
    • Their daughter Willow appeared in "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" video.
  • Similarly Named Works: "Stupid Girls" shouldn't be confused with Garbage's "Stupid Girl", although the songs are thematically similar.
  • Throw It In!:
    • She burps in the middle of "Last To Know".
    • While recording "Raise Your Glass", Pink came in for the final chorus a bar too early, resulting in "So raise your... aw, fuck." It was left in because it fitted absolutely perfectly with the song's theme of embracing one's imperfections.
    • "Get The Party Started" was songwriter Linda Perry testing her drum machine.
    • Nate Ruess was just brought in to help write "Just Give Me A Reason". She soon realised that the song needed to be a duet and had him sing the other part.
  • What Could Have Been: "Revenge", her song with Eminem, was going to serve as the second single from Beautiful Trauma with a music video shot but the planned single release was cancelled in favour of the Title Track, likely not to overshadow Eminem's then-forthcoming release Revival. The music video would've had Pink encountering Eminem doppelgangers.
  • Write Who You Hate: "So What" was written about her ex-husband Carey Hart, with the music video even showing Pink taking a chainsaw to a tree with her and Hart's names carved in it. The line where Pink seemingly disses Jessica Simpson is actually an odd way of saying that Simpson is cooler than her, since the waiter keeps giving Pink's table to the latter. Hart and Pink would end up getting back together about a year after the song released, with Pink herself saying that she found it funny to perform the song in front of him.
