Trivia / Eve Torres

Go To

  • Acting in the Dark: She had no idea that she would be added into the Divas' Championship match at the 2011 Royal Rumble, only finding out on the morning of the event.
  • Actor-Inspired Element: Eve's Stepford Smiler persona in 2012, after the 'Hoeski' period ended, came from her own experiences in trying to be a face that the crowds weren't connecting with.
  • Advertised Extra: Diva Dirt hyped up Eve's appearance on Supergirl (2015). She only appears at the beginning of the episode.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • She grew to hate being a Face, as she felt the fans weren't connecting with her, and thus enjoyed her heel turn a lot more.
    • Subverted with her famous botch in the #1 contender's battle royal that led to Kaitlyn winning instead of her. Although embarrassed that she messed up the finish, she said that the resulting storyline was even more interesting than what likely would have happened before.
    • She opted to retire from WWE because she felt "like I was being controlled by other things that weren't just me or my skill set or my work ethic, and I didn't like that". She also felt she never really got to accomplish as much as she wanted to.
    • Her time as Diva Search, which she claims she cringes while watching old segments from it. However, she is grateful to have got her start in WWE from it.
  • Dye Hard: Naturally dark brown but has been known for light brown and dark blonde hair.
  • Fake Nationality: She plays a Russian in the movie Skiptrace.
  • Playing Against Type: She preferred being a heel, but didn't spend that long in the role. She was a heel for just one year before she retired, and had played a Face for the other five years of her career.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: It's widely thought among fans that Eve's stoyline with Kane and John Cena was rewritten to capitalise on the X-Pac Heat she experienced when she kissed John. Notably Kane disappeared from the storyline the very next week so that Eve could be quickly turned heel.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • Eve becoming Divas' Champion in 2010 likely wouldn't have happened, considering Melina was the reigning champion. Melina tore her ACL while in the middle of a feud with Maryse - leading to Eve being pushed as the new top face once Maryse became champion.
    • Eve was meant to become the #1 contender to Layla's title in a battle royal. However due to a goof, she got eliminated and Kaitlyn won instead. Thus the resulting storyline became Eve arranging to have Kaitlyn attacked so she could have the match in her place - leading to Kaitlyn becoming the new top face.
    • Kaitlyn says that Eve had an arm injury around the time their feud was happening - which led to them having to resort to psychology and other ways to work around it in the ring.
  • Screwed by the Network: She had the same problem that Kofi Kingston tends to have in that, while she did get pushed, her full potential clearly didn't get tapped into. Both her title wins had minimal build up and her title match with Beth Phoenix at Survivor Series had no build up on her side. Though finally averted with her heel turn. She got plenty of mic time, character development and was featured regularly. She was then put into a long running story for the Divas' Championship with Layla and Kaitlyn - becoming the first 3-time Divas' Champion in the process.
  • Wag the Director: According to Eve, when she announced that she would be leaving WWE in 2013, they were just going to have her depart with hardly any fanfare. She claims she had to "work hard" to get the match that was her last one (Kaitlyn confirms that the match was supposed to be at the Royal Rumble, but Eve had them change it to the anniversary show because it was in her hometown of Houston).
"I fought very hard for that moment, because they weren't going to give it to us."
  • What Could Have Been:
    • After her heel turn, there were rumours of a Kelly Kelly vs Eve match for Wrestle Mania. Another rumour was that the returning Layla would side with Zack Ryder against Eve and a male superstar. Interestingly enough for this trope, both stories did happen but differently. Beth Phoenix and celebrity Maria Menounos were added to make it a tag match for Mania (though Eve and Kelly did have three singles matches on Raw and Superstars). Eve and Layla feuded months after Layla's return, after Eve took the Divas' Championship from her (with no males involved).
    • Also, not long before her departure, she mentioned possibly being the first female lead in WWE's Marine film series. She also around that time appeared on (and won) the NBC reality series Stars Earn Stripes, where celebrities received military training (making it seem like a two-birds-one-stone situation.) Her leaving clearly threw a wrench in that. Summer Rae was the one that got the part in The Marine 4 in 2014.
