- Alan Smithee: Lewis Greifer was so unhappy with Robert Holmes' re-writes that he took his name off the story. Hence Stephen Harris.
- Blooper: Sutekh rises from his throne, revealing the hand of a production assistant holding the seat down.
- California Doubling: It's safe to assume that the opening sequence wasn't filmed in Egypt.
- Enforced Method Acting: That really is Tom Baker in the mummy costume. Director Paddy Russell insisted, much to Tom's dismay.
- Hostility on the Set: Tom Baker was somewhat standoffish to Gabriel Woolf, who consequently rather enjoyed watching back the scenes where Sutekh tortures the Doctor.
- Throw It In!: The Doctor and Sarah calmly turning in unison to walk out of sight of a mummy as it turns to face them was a gag Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen thought up themselves and did without clearing it with the director. It was inspired by a Marx Brothers bit.
- What Could Have Been:
- Lewis Greifer's original script was radically different. In that story, the Doctor, Sarah Jane and The Brigadier (who was suggested to be killed off) visited the British Museum. There, a new type of grain was unveiled, which could survive on the surface of the Moon. During the conference however, they are attacked by the crocodile-like Egyptian god Sebek and his legion of mummies. The once-imprisoned Sebek and his master, Seth, planned to use the grain to destroy the moon. The Doctor then would have to team-up with fellow Egyptian gods Horus and Isis to defeat the two before they reached the moon.
- Ernie Clements was intended to survive the story, but Paddy Russell elected to kill him off instead.
- You Look Familiar:
- Michael Sheard (Laurence) previously played Rhos and Dr. Roland Summers.
- Michael Bilton (Collins) previously played Teligny.
- Bernard Archard (Marcus) previously played Bragen.
