Trivia / Deepwoken

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Demstormz voices both Chaser and the Ferryman.
  • Ascended Glitch: Completing Echo Talent quests after having unlocked the Talent would grant you a free hand of Talents due to a bug. This was eventually turned into the Bravery, Compassion, Curiosity system.
  • Approval of God: The "nerf gale, buff flame, add a new Shadow Mantra" meme has been used by the official Deepwoken twitter account to celebrate their second anniversary.
  • Author's Saving Throw: On March 22, 2024, various changes were made to the various blocking mechanics. Because of the unpopularity of these changes, Arch_Mage later announced that they will be reverted in the April 5, 2024 update due to the backlash.
  • Based on a Dream: Deepwoken is based on a dream developer ragoozer had.
  • Blooper: During the update which added the Imperial Staff, obtaining it in the newer servers then going to an server that didn't have the update causes it to have the critical animations for the Unsung Scythern, an guild-specific exclusive weapon that's a jacked-up version of the Skyreap Blade.
  • Content Leak: On May 1st, 2023, during an update that added new critical animations to Curved Blade of Winds and the Crypt Blade, the Ironsing Attunement, which was rumored to be in development, was accidentally leaked.
  • Contest Winner Cameo: The Light's Final Toll and upcoming weapon the Bloodsworn Effigy were winners of various Weapon Design Contests.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Arch_Mage isn't exactly a fan of the heavy referencing that exists in the game, especially in older content, due to him hiring people temporarily to model for him and thus getting results with less effort put in. He's particular saddened by the Megalodaunt, as the design has become too iconic for him to change, despite it being ripped from Bloodborne.
    • Due to time constraints, the trailers for the Destroyman III plushie had to use AI-generated backgrounds, much to the creator's TheRealPunchee displeasure.
  • Creator's Pest: Arch_Mage hates just about everything to do with the Dread Serpent, from it's design being Kaido with two extra eyes and the fact that its fight is obnoxious and boring.
  • Descended Creator: Developer Arch_Mage provides the voice for Yamaketzal.
  • Development Gag: Meteor Isle has two due to it not appearing in Verse 1 despite it being the first island to ever be revealed:
    • Ata describes the Player as an old friend, but they don't remember her. She makes a really minor appearance in one of the early trailers for Deepwoken.
    • Exter stares at an empty space and remarks how it calls to him. The empty space is where Deepwoken's combat was showed off for the first time, and is arguably the most iconic piece of pre-release Deepwoken footage.
  • Dummied Out: The Isopod was once a monster that would spawn and attach itself to people. It was later removed for being annoying. The creature still exists in the files, however, and can be spawned by developers. It also makes a cameo to kill Karliah during her questline.
  • Flip-Flop of God: Originally, Yayafino said that the Ysley's Pyre Keeper greatsword's flames are so strong that not even Azure Flames or Twisted Puppets will override it's colors. However, in April 13, 2024, an update was added that allowed Azure Flames and Twisted Puppets to change its appearance if the user has one of those talents.
  • God Never Said That: An edited tweet of Arch describing Duke as transgender has resulted in many believing he genuinely is trans. In reality, Duke isn't trans.
  • Meme Acknowledgment: Developer yayafino is a fan of the "K1 COOKED" memes, and thus sometimes makes Mantras based on properties K1LLUAA has worked on to further fuel it.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: The original designer of the outfits in the game was fired to due preying on minors, which resulting in most of the outfits being redesigned when Verse 2 came out.
  • Trolling Creator: yayafino's modern Mantras tend to be built for the sole purpose of annoying people, with the intention of making them assume K1 was responsible and thus make meme gifs out of it.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: For a while, there were rumors of enchanted food in game, such as the Heroism Egg or the Red Calabash. However, Arch_Mage later debunked the rumors, stating that the person who made those "had a good sense of humor and Synapsenote ".
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
    • There was once an guild-exclusive outfit meant for the Wyvern Brotherhood due to their general notoriety and being run by developer limebeard. However, when it was discovered the Outfit made for them was AI-generated, it was immediately deleted and turned into the Stranded outfit. Not to mention, having a Outfit that was significantly better than every single Master Outfit would significantly break the game's balance, which was frowned upon by the community due to being exclusive to a single guild, as well as some taking it as a form of nepotism due to the guild's leadership all being friends of lime.
    • Female NPCs like Klaris never receive voice acting, simply because Arch doesn't trust the playerbase not to be weird about it.
    • The name Adolin was removed from the naming system due to it sounding way too similar to Adolf Hitler, and the amounts of Nazi Germany uniform-like cosplays with the character named after it.
  • Word of Dante:
    • According to a developer in Agamatsu's stream, the Lord Regent has a six-pack, contradictory to his appearance.
    • Lance Leshi's brother is supposedly canonically called Maverick Leshi, who at one point ascended and became a Lightborn through using a time machine, and that the one we see in the Isle of Vigils is his past self. Of course, all of this is to be taken with caution, since this information comes from HorrorTM, who may or may not be joking about this, especially the latter.
  • Working Title: Drowned Gods was the initial title of the game.
