Huracan ("Hurricane") is a Mexican telenovela that ran from 1997 to 1998.


Huracan contains examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Lobato to Thelma, especially so since they are cousins.
  • Abusive Parents: Nestor Villarreal, who forces his daughter to remain married to a man she does not love and verbally abuses his youngest son for not following his footsteps, and Caridad, who not only treats her son with disdain and contempt but also manipulates her daughter into submission.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Nestor and Esperanza, Guillermo and Caridad and Ezequiel and Thelma.
  • The Alcoholic: Guillermo Medina
  • The Atoner: Fernan Vargaslugo spent most of his life trying to make amends for having abandoned Alfonsina and Elena
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Raimundo, who manages to keep his facade until shortly before his death.
  • Cool Old Lady: Doña Irasema is a nice and caring matriarch who loves to watch old movies.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Nestor Villarreal
  • False Friend: Raymundo pretends to be Ulises friend just so he can steal his girlfriend.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Karina and Elena Robles
  • The Fundamentalist: Caridad Salvatierra
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Ulises Medina is considered a criminal by many people.
  • It's All About Me: Caridad's only concern is what other people might think of her
  • Parents as People: Although deep down she loves her daughter, Thelma is unprepared for her role as mother, constantly neglecting and yelling at Daniela.
  • Really Gets Around: Thelma is rather flirty with men, and being married hasn't stopped her from pursuing other relationships.
  • Straw Misogynist: Both Nestor and Ezequiel have a low opinion of women, evidenced by the treatment of their respective wives.
  • Suicide by Sea: After accidentally killing his son Raymundo, Nestor loses the will to live and kills himself by walking into the sea.
  • The Unfavorite: Santiago is this to Nestor
  • White Sheep: Santiago is the only one of the Villarreal children to be a nice and fundamentally decent person.
  • Womanchild: Thelma growed up to be an inmature and childish woman.
