Abot-Kamay na Pangarap (English:
The Dream within Reach) is an ongoing 2022 medical drama produced and aired by
GMA Network starring Carmina Villarroel, Jillian Ward, Richard Yap, Kazel Kinouchi and Pinky Amador. It follows a top neurosurgeon, Analyn Santos (Ward) being raised by her illiterate mother Lyneth (Villarroel). Despite having an illiterate mother and having the shorter end of the stick, Analyn becomes the top neurosurgeon in the Philippines with help from Dr. Robert Jose "RJ" Tanyag (Yap) and Moira (Amador) - who happens to be more of an asshole than her husband, RJ is. Analyn then meets Zoey Tanyag (Kinouchi) which is the daughter of RJ and Moira - or is she?
Abot-Kamay na Pangarap provides examples of:
- Adaptation Deviation: The series strays further from the movie it's based from. For starters, Lyneth's daughter lived and becomes the main protagonist.
- Assassination Attempt: Moira tries to kill Lyneth with somebody else's SUV.
- Bastard Angst: Zoey, despite having the surname of Tanyag, is actually not RJ's daughter - in fact, his legitimate daughter is Analyn.
- Criminal Amnesiac: RJ suffers amnesia in Episode #159, which Zoey took advantage of by telling blatant lies in order to make RJ despise Analyn.
- Laxative Prank: Prior to a masquerade ball, Moira spikes Lyneth's coffee with a laxative as an attempt to sabotage Lyneth's performance. Little did Moira know, Lyneth was aware of this, and interrupted a worker to swap the contents of the drinks. Later on, Lyneth offers Moira's (now-spiked) cup of coffee to Moira as a "peace offering". She then drinks it at the masquerade ball before her performance, causing her to soil herself in the bathroom.
- Pie in the Face: A cake, rather. Moira throws a cake at Analyn's face.
- Rags to Riches: The show starts off with a young Analyn and Lyneth living in the streets.
- Spared by the Adaptation: In the original film, Lyneth suffered from miscarriage. In the series, Lyneth did not and raised her daughter as her own and becomes a doctor.
