Air date: February 14, 2019 (UK), May 4th, 2019 (US)

It is Valentine's Day on Sodor, which means more post for Percy to pull. Unfortunately, Diesel in playing his cruel jokes bumps Rosie's trucks full of roses which fall all over the docks. When Thomas attempts to stand up for Rosie against Diesel, he gets teased by Bill, Ben and Diesel for Rosie being Thomas' "special friend". This leads to Thomas distancing himself from Rosie and being unkind to her to stop himself from getting teased.

Thomas is later told by the Fat Controller to go to Ulfstead Castle and pick up some very important passengers and meet Rosie there, while he tells Rosie to take some vans to Vicarstown and meet Thomas there. Although they are told to do so, the two engines really do not want to see each other. When Henrietta hears about this, she attempts to get Thomas to not think about what the other engines think and to talk about it with Rosie.

Thomas and Rosie later arrive at Vicarstown, and meet each other face-to-face. The Fat Controller sees Lady Hatt and states about how much he loves her, revealing that what he had Thomas and Rosie do was for her. He has a quartet of violin players play for her and gives her a kitten and several flowers as presents for her. Thomas apologises for how he acted, telling Rosie that he doesn't like her anymore than the other engines. Rosie happily states that she feels the same way. This makes Thomas and Rosie very happy to be just friends and nothing more.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop:
    • The main one is, "sticking up for your friends is a good thing, not something to make fun of".
    • The minor (and probably accidental) one is that if a boy and girl are friends, that doesn't mean they have a crush on each other.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: When Sir Topham Hatt announces his Valentine's Day plans to Thomas and Rosie, they each do this.
Thomas: What, Rosie?!? I don't want to......disappoint you, sir!
Rosie: Thomas?!? NOO.....problem, sir. I'll go right away.
  • Continuity Nod: In the And Knowing Is Half the Battle segment, Thomas recalls the events of "Henry in the Dark" and "Millie and the Volcano".
  • Cute Kitten: Sir Topham Hatt gives Lady Hatt a particularly adorable kitten for Valentine's Day.
  • Homoerotic Subtext: At the beginning of the episode, a workman collapses when some mail bags fall out of a truck, and another one catches him, and they look at each other lovingly.
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: Roses are used for scene transitions twice in the episode.
  • Imagine Spot: Thomas has one where he and Rosie are flying on leaves in a tree.
  • Jerkass: Bill, Ben, and Diesel, because they made fun of Thomas and Rosie for supposedly being in love.
  • Jerkass Ball: Thomas suddenly becomes mean to Rosie after Rosie thanks him for defending her at the docks. But he apologizes for this later.
  • Jerkass Realization: Thomas realizes he was a jerk to Rosie after Henrietta calls him out on it and advises him to talk things out with Rosie.
  • Just Friends: Thomas admits he does like Rosie, but no more than the other engines. Rosie feels the same way. At the end of the episode, Thomas narrates that he's glad that he became a good friend to her.
  • Karma Houdini: Bill, Ben, and Diesel bully Thomas and Rosie, but they all get off scot-free.
  • Kissing In A Tree: Bill and Ben use the "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" song on Thomas and Rosie.
  • Late to the Punchline: Diesel doesn't get Bill and Ben's "K-I-S-S-I-N-G" song until seconds after they sing it and Thomas leaves the docks.
  • Leitmotif: A recurring theme plays throughout the episode, and is later played when STH is giving his Valentine's Day surprise to Lady Hatt.
  • Luminescent Blush: Thomas and Rosie blush several times around each other, most notably when they meet up at Vicarstown.
  • Mouthscreen: When Thomas' Imagine Spot ends and he is disgusted, the camera is focused on his mouth.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Thomas has this reaction when he realizes he was mean to Rosie, and sets out to make things right with her.
  • Oh, Crap!: Thomas has this reaction when Sir Topham Hatt tells him that he'll be meeting with Rosie at Vicarstown.
  • Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue...: STH recites a variation of the poem to Lady Hatt.
Sir Topham Hatt: Rosie is red, Thomas is blue, and my darling Lady Hatt, I love you.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Since they're probably not allowed to say "girlfriend" on a preschool show, Bill and Ben call Rosie Thomas' "special friend". It's still clear that Bill and Ben think that Thomas and Rosie are in love, even though they aren't, and Thomas spends the bulk of the episode trying to prove so.
  • Ship Sinking: Thomas/Rosie, which was a popular ship, gets sunk in the episode when Thomas and Rosie declare they are just good friends.
  • Take That!: At the beginning of the episode, Percy makes a well-deserved jab at Valentine's Day after having learned about it from Edward.
Percy: I think it’s a bit silly to try to do it all on one day. People should show they care all the time.
  • Valentine's Day Episodes: This is the very first Valentine's Day episode in the franchise, and also takes place on Valentine's Day.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Toby, Henrietta, Annie, and Clarabel call out Thomas for being mean to Rosie.
