Hefty wants a new nose because he thinks Smurfette is uninterested in him. When he asks Papa Smurf, he refuses, so Hefty uses a spell that enlarges his nose.
This episode has the following tropes:
- All Love Is Unrequited: Hefty's sadness over Smurfette's disinterest in him kicks off the plot of the episode.
- Bittersweet Ending: Hefty's nose shrinks, but not enough, so he has to stay inside a cave until it shrinks.
- "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: If Hefty had listened to Papa Smurf (who told him his nose was perfect the way it is), none of this would have happened.
- Epic Fail: Hefty attempts to talk to Smurfette with a nose clipper after he thinks his nose is too big. It falls off of him, crashes onto other things and bounces back to him, causing him fo fall.
- Gag Nose: Hefty overdoses on a magical cream from one of Gargamel's spell books to reduce his nose. Instead, it enlarges it until he becomes giant nose, one that snorts everything up around it like a vacuum and goes on a rampage trying to get to Smurfette.
- Hyper-Destructive Bouncing Ball: Handy jumps on to Hefty's colossal nose and it bounces like a ball.
- Informed Deformity: Parodied, Hefty´s nose is clearly not bigger than other Smurf´s noses but he and the other Smurfs are conviced otherwise.Papa Smurf even Lampshades this.
- Innocent Bystander: Brainy, Poet and Jokey don't do much but panic when Hefty's nose frows big. At least until the ending where they help Handy.
- Nice Guy: Handy tries to save Smurfette from Hefty's large nose.
- Nose Nuggets: Hefty's gigantic nose explodes... leaving boogers everywhere.
- Nose Shove: Brainy shoves a measuring stick in one of Hefty's nostrils to measure its depth.
- Pet the Dog: After Hefty´s big nose is trapped, Smurfette comforts him and doesn't have hurt feelings for being sucked.
- Shipper on Deck: The other Smurfs at one point try to set Smurfette on a date with Hefty.
- Spaghetti and Gondolas: Handy believes that Hefty wants to go on a date with Smurfette and sets it up with Spaghetti.
- Throw the Pin: Hefty throws the nose clipper at Brainy after his Epic Fail.
- Weirdness Censor: Brainy checks in Gargamel's trunk...and finds a lady's shoe.
