Jarod becomes a counsellor to help a troubled youth. Miss Parker attempts to prevent an assassination attempt on her father.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: In the midst of all the running and shooting and climbing, there's a quiet scene where Miss Parker and Broots sit in a stalled elevator and talk about parents and children.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: Jarod calls Miss Parker and tells her to get back to the Centre immediately.
    Miss Parker: Why?
Jarod: Someone is going to kill your father.
  • "Die Hard" on an X: Bad guys take over the Centre (which is down to a skeleton staff because it's the weekend and there's purportedly a security test going on) to set up an ambush for Mr. Parker. Miss Parker spends a lot of time in the service tunnels.
  • Disconnected by Death: Miss Parker and her team are trapped in the sim lab when bad guys cut the power to the building. Miss Parker suddenly recalls that she instructed her assistant to call her in the sim lab if he hadn't heard from her in a certain amount of time, offering the possibility that he'll be able to arrange rescue. Cut to her assistant lifting the phone to call her and immediately getting shot by one of the bad guys.
  • Dramatic Irony: Jarod relates to Chris by talking about what happened to Kyle and his guilt over failing to save him. He's unaware his little brother is still out there somewhere and stalking the pursuit team.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Mr. Parker's attitude about Catherine's death was "Life goes on" and refused to talk any further about it, as well as forbid Sydney from discussing it with Miss Parker, Jarod, or anyone else. A DSA, though, shows that Mr. Parker privately wept over his wife's death.
  • If I Do Not Return: Miss Parker sets out to battle the conspirators planning to assassinate her father, while Sydney stops back to tend to the ill Mr. Raines. Miss Parker tells Sydney that if he doesn't hear from her in an hour, he should leaves Raines to die and save himself.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bomb: The bomb used in the assassination attempt beeps audibly and has a green flashing light.
  • Ironic Echo Cut: A scene of Jarod trying to help a withdrawn teenager ends with the teenager complaining that he wants to go home, followed by a cut to the Centre where Broots is complaining that he wants to go home but has been made to stay and help Miss Parker.
  • Just in Time: Miss Parker deactivates the bomb set to kill her father in the last few seconds, when the countdown display is down to 3.
  • Meaningful Echo: Jarod helps a grieving teen and gives him some sage advice about learning to live with his loss. Later in the episode, a flashback shows the young Jarod giving the same advice to the young Miss Parker after her mother's death.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Miss Parker gives Brigitte one, during the climax.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Chris was traumatized by how he saved himself after a car accident rather than try to save his best friend. Jarod relates to him by talking about what happened to Kyle last season and how he dealt with that grief.
  • Plummet Perspective: While Miss Parker is climbing up inside the tower, her shoe slips off and falls.
  • Save the Villain: By proxy, as Jarod alerts Miss Parker to the plot against her father. When Miss Parker questions why he would even care, Jarod says the old man's secrets would die with him.
  • Short Cuts Make Long Delays: Invoked by Jarod. He talks the person he's hiking with into taking a short cut that leads to disaster, which he turns out to have set up himself to echo the circumstances of the incident he's investigating.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Following a car accident, Chris could've either saved himself or tried to help his trapped best friend; he chose the former and has been consumed with guilt ever since. Due to Kyle, Jarod took an interest in this case and helps Chris work through his guilt by relating experiences.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: In a flashback, young Jarod is trying to start a conversation with young Angelo, and they're found by young Miss Parker, who draws Angelo out by offering him the packet of Cracker Jacks she's carrying.
  • Villain Episode: The episode focuses on Miss Parker uncovering and defeating a plot to assassinate her father, with Jarod's current mission relegated to the B-plot.
  • Wham Shot: The unmasked assassin being Brigitte.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Jarod appears to have broken his leg in a car accident, but it was really part of his plan to help Chris work through his guilt and grief. After Chris is fine and goes home, Jarod gets up himself and apologizes to the first responder for any wasted time.
  • Year X: When Miss Parker visits her mother's grave, the shot of the headstone is framed so that the last two digits of the death date are obscured by a floral tribute placed on the grave earlier.
