Go To

Original air date: 9/24/1999

Production code: PPG-204

Dream Scheme: The Sandman wants to get some sleep, but can't as long as half the world is awake at any given time, so he plans to put the whole world to sleep permanently.

You Snooze You Lose: When Mojo Jojo loses his most evil plan ever, it falls into the clutches of the inept Amoeba Boys.

Dream Scheme provides examples of:

  • Acid-Trip Dimension: The nightmare the girls give to the Sandman is done in a surreal way.
  • Catapult Nightmare: How the Sandman wakes up after the girls are done with him.
  • Dream Walker: The girls, after being put to sleep by the Sandman, quickly realize they can enter each other’s dreams, and even that of the Sandman.
  • Dream Within a Dream: After the girls give him hell, the Sandman seemingly wakes up in his own bed. Only for the bed to rattle and rise up through the ceiling, revealing that the Sandman is still sleeping and the nightmare is not yet over.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags:
    • The Sandman has them due to his duties preventing him from getting some sleep himself. The narrator even points it out.
    • Buttercup has them when the girls go to sleep at the end of the episode due to her, along with the other girls, being so tired from staying up all night.
  • Forced Sleep: The Sandman’s plan is to use a machine to put the whole world to sleep.
  • Heavy Sleeper: The girls are these at the end of the episode, as they are so tired from staying up all night. Not even their alarm clock or the Professor can wake them up.
  • The Insomniac: The girls are these at the beginning of the episode, which makes them invulnerable to the Sandman's sleep machine. By the end of the episode, when the world (including the girls) awakes from eternal slumber, the girls are so tired from staying up all night that they go back to sleep in their bed.
  • Never Sleep Again: After the nightmare the Girls put him through, the Sandman ends up giving up his plan to keep everyone asleep, leaving him to stay awake forever.
  • Nightmare Sequence: The girls give the Sandman such a nightmare he never wants to sleep again.
  • No-Sell: The girls are unaffected by Sandman’s sleep machine as they have insomnia, so he has to go to their room and put them to sleep personally. Which comes back to bite him, since the girls now know about his plan and proceed to fight him in his dreams.
  • Rhyming Episode: The entire episode is told in the style of a nursery rhyme.
  • Shout-Out:
Professor: Now, go to bed, I mean it.
Bubbles: Does anyone want a peanut?

You Snooze You Lose provides examples of:

  • Achievement In Ignorance: The Amoeba Boys manage to construct Mojo Jojo’s machine, even getting the girls to help them do it, without even realizing what it is they are building.
  • Blame Game: When Mojo finds his blueprints for his perfect plan gone (since the wind blew it away during the night), he starts blaming everything and everyone in sight for stealing his plan.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: After the girls blame the Amoeba Boys for the scheme, Mojo intervenes by proudly stating that this evil scheme was all his idea and that HE should be the one to go to jail since only someone with his intelligence would ever devise such a complex plan to destroy the girls, something the Amoeba Boys are certainly NOT very competent to implement.
  • Eating Solves Everything: Using chewing gum to keep the girls from escaping was possibly not a good idea, because the girls figured out the best method is to chew their way out.
  • Extreme Omnivore: The girls easily get the chewing gum, paper clips, a flashlight, and basketball needed for the machine since Junior reveals he has eaten all these things and simply spits them out.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: Buttercup fights one to get the Crustacean needed for the machine.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
    • Just when he wants to shoot the girls, Mojo makes them realize that it is chewing gum that is holding them in place; the girls promptly eat it to free themselves and give Mojo a good smackdown.
    • Mojo later screams that it was his plan, not the Amoeba Boys', to trap the girls. They asked if he is the one who needs to go to jail, and Mojo proudly agrees.
  • Overworked Sleep: Mojo Jojo falls asleep behind his drawing board after multiple failed attempts to come up with the perfect plan, until inspiration strikes.
  • Scavenger Hunt: What the girls think the blueprints for Mojo’s machine are, since they didn’t see the envelope it came in. They proceed to collect all the items listed on the blueprint.
  • Worthy Opponents: The girls mistake the Amoeba Boys for this after helping them with Mojo's machine.
