Recap / The New Scooby Doo Movies S 1 E 9 The Spooky Fog Of Juneberry

Go To

Don Knotts encounters the gang while working in a Dying Town plagued by mysterious fog, spooky sounds in the night, and cattle rustling.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Casting Gag: Being a sheriff's deputy here, Don Knotts' appearance in this episode is closer to his most famous role than in in "Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner?"
  • From Bad to Worse: Shaggy is relieved when Fred says they won't follow the tracks that lead into the cemetery, only to blanche when Fred says they'll come back at night.
  • Not So Stoic: Sheriff Taylor is a grim man who is unfazed by jokes. However, Scooby's slapstick dance routine makes him break out laughing. It turns out he just has an Annoying Laugh that he's embarrassed about.
  • Police Are Useless: Averted by Deputy Don Knotts, the guest star, who accompanies the gang during their investigation (albeit reluctantly).
  • Posse: Fred suggests forming one to investigate, but Don says that modern police forces use helicopters and the order for his hasn't came through yet.
  • The Rich Have White Stuff: The haughty local Cattle Baron wears a white suit. He's also the episode's culprit, making him a Villain in a White Suit.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • When Don brings the gang back to Juneberry, they pass a family that has packed up their car and is leaving town due to the hauntings.
    • Don, Shaggy, and Scooby try to flee the graveyard as the rest of the gang chases the Big Bad. However, no matter what direction they go, they find themselves being intercepted by ghosts.
  • Security Cling: A frightened Don jumps into Shaggy's arms at one point.
