This episode has examples of

  • Angrish: The Swedish Chef becomes even less coherent when he gets angry at the chicken, yelling something that can only be typed out as roughly "HARBORDUREH—" before being drowned out by the audience's laughter.
  • Aside Comment: While singing "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with Elton, Piggy turns to the camera to say, "Eat your heart out, Kiki!", referring to Elton's original partner for the song, Kiki Dee.
  • Blatant Lies: While introducing "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", Scooter says he promised not to get carried away, and that he'll be very understated. He proceeds to excitedly introduce Elton as "the greatest talent in the history of the universe", then imitate the wild gestures Kermit makes when he does the introductions.
  • Bowdlerization: The first lines of the second verse of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" are removed, about shooting down a plane and vodka and tonics.
  • Gag Echo: Sam says of Elton that he "dresses like a stolen car." During curtain call, Elton says the same thing of the Muppets, who come out in extravagant costumes while he's in a plain brown suit.
Scooter: Boy, Elton, you look weird!
Elton: Well, you guys are all dressed like stolen cars.
  • Humiliating Wager: Sam says that if Kermit can prove that Mozart wore heels, silk stockings and a powdered wig, not only will he introduce Elton's closing number, he'll also eat his hat. After Scooter produces a painting of Mozart with that exact outfit, Sam is forced into a similar costume and shoved on stage to introduce Elton, after which Scooter gives Sam a hat to eat.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: The minute Sam swears that Mozart didn't wear high heels, wigs, and silk stockings, Scooter brings out a painting of Mozart in period heels, silk stockings, and a powdered wig.
  • Irony: At the end of the show, everyone is dressed up in crazy costumes, except for Elton, who's wearing a plain brown suit.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Well, of course there's crocodiles on stage when Elton performs "Crocodile Rock"—and they pull him into the water in an attempt to devour him!
Kermit: How many times have I told you: never eat the guest stars at the beginning of the show!
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Elton inquires about the piano in his dressing room, and Kermit explains that Scooter's found a song he wants Elton to perform on the show. Kermit begs Elton to listen to it, especially since Scooter's uncle owns the theater. Elton reluctantly agrees, and Scooter and a bunch of other Muppets perform a terrible rendition of what turns out to be "Bennie and the Jets."
Elton: Hold it! Stop! Hold it!
Kermit: Hold it, hold it. Scooter, I told you that Elton wouldn't like that song. That song is a tasteless... it's a... that song has no melody. That... isn't that the worst song you've ever heard, Elton?
Elton: Well, I didn't think so when I wrote it.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When the Swedish Chef gets fed up with his chicken laying ping pong balls instead of eggs, he decides to cook her instead, leading to the Running Gag of them chasing each other for the remainder of the show.
  • Running Gag: The Swedish Chef literally running after the chicken (and later, running from the chicken), interrupting various scenes. Lampshaded when they go by Statler and Waldorf's balcony.
    Waldorf: I hate running gags!

Statler: Well, what did you think?
[The Swedish Chef and the chicken run past.]
Waldorf: Oh... I hate running gags!

Sam Hornswoggled

After Sam criticizes to Kermit about how Elton John dresses, Kermit says musicians have always been fancy dressers. Sam said Mozart wasn't a fancy dresser. Kermit then says Mozart wore high heels, silk stockings, and a powdered wig. Sam doesn't believe it. Cue Scooter coming up and showing them a portrait of Mozart Elton John gave him...

How well does it match the trope?
