Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S2 E9 "It's a Handbag"

Go To

The ninth episode of the second season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Daffy's handbag is stolen while he's at the mall.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Aside Glance: After Daffy gets kicked out for sleeping in Bugs's bed, this is Taz's frustrated response over the duck sleeping in the doghouse.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • When Bugs sees Daffy's handbag, he says "I can't believe you go out looking like that." Daffy then says "You're right!" and puts one of his scrunchies on.
    • Lola tries to buy a very expensive painting of Van Gogh's Sunflowers for Bugs to celebrate their anniversary for 22 dollars. She then decides against buying it, believing that Bugs is allergic to sunflowers.
    • When hiring Porky to be his bodyguard, Daffy figured he'd be a natural, due to taking karate lessons for three years. Porky says he's been taking pilates for three years.
  • Forgotten Anniversary: After Lola gives Bugs a pink shirt for their anniversary, he realizes he forgot and runs back to his house to take back the clutch he got Daffy to give to Lola as her present. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Bugs didn't forget their anniversary after all; he remembers that they met on a tennis court in July, and since it's April, their anniversary is actually three months away.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Daffy interviews Porky as a candidate for his bodyguard, he says that he can't sleep or eat. He then eats an egg salad sandwich.
  • Less Embarrassing Term:
    • As everybody calls it a purse, Daffy says it's a handbag.
    • After the titular handbag was taken, Bugs gets him a new one, which barely resembles it and Daffy says it's a clutch.
  • No Sympathy: Double subverted when Tina learns of the "crime" that Daffy fell victim to. She is genuinely worried when he talks about suffering a horrible crime, only to get frustrated upon learning his handbag was simply taken while his back was turned. She calls him a nitwit and walks away from the phone.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lola dons one to get another Cinnaball at the mall after exceeding her sample limit by wearing a pair of sunglasses and wearing her ears in a bun.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: A literal example with Daffy. He carries around a pink handbag. Such items he carries in it include his phone, sunglasses, mints, lip gloss, and scrunchies.
  • Running Gag: People calling Daffy's handbag a purse.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Daffy's handbag wasn't stolen after all. As his handbag was taken by Mall Security who thought it was abandoned.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When Daffy looks through a book of suspects to find out who stole his handbag, two of the suspects resemble Ernie and Bert.
    • When Lola searches for a present, Lola goes off exploring an Aztec Tomb dressed up as Lara Croft. In the same scene, the shot of her about to grabs the artifact is similar to the shot of Aladdin about to grab the lamp, even sharing the same facial expression and pose.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Daffy's handbag goes missing, Bugs asks Daffy why he can't just get a new handbag. Daffy tells him that he got that handbag when he was a model in France.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish": Daffy had made a password (along with putting a lock on the chain for precautions) which was "The leprechaun is in motion.", which Bugs says is a pass sentence. This brings Daffy to make a new one on the spot.
Daffy: Then the password is... 0844... LXZ... 417-6647144 [beat] ...13.
