Recap / The Interns S 2 E 17

Go To

Levin wants to go on a medical conference, but Bykov would never allow him to leave. Kisegach's old mentor, academic Valery Talanov, would adhere that same conference, but before this he would pay a visit to Kisegach's hospital. He also strongly wants to meet Gleb, whom he thinks to be a gifted science-loving young specialist... and the only correct part of that description is "young". Maybe, Levin can impersonate him? Levin (while impersonating Romanenko) decides to praise Levin (i.e. himself) to Talanov, and now Valery wants to meet him. So, Bykov forces Lobanov to pretend to be Levin, which he, of course, botches. Meanwhile, Gleb, who was not aware of this, learns the truth, gets offended and decides to destroy the whole deception. He confronts Kisegach right in front of Talanov, forcing her to admit the truth... and then Talanov reveals that he likes the real Gleb much more than arrogant Levin.

Kupitman asks Lobanov for help: his patient's jealous husband would come soon, and Semyon must protect Ivan Natanovich from him. Unfortunately, Lobanov would not help for free, since the more time he spends here, the more he risks being busted by Bykov. When the husband doesn't show up even an hour later, Semyon decides to just leave... only for the husband to finally appear in his absence.

Varya's patient is very, very attractive. So attractive, in fact, that she can't even think straight near him, so she asks Lyuba for help... but he has the same effect on her, too. When Varya and Lyuba finally manages to put their patient to sleep, they decides to take a better look, to see wether everything in him is just as perfect... only to be rather disappointed when it turns out that it isn't.

This episode provides examples of:

  • …But He Sounds Handsome: Levin (while impersonating Romanenko) tries to praise himself to Kisegach's old mentor, Valery Talanov. This leads to Talanov wanting to see this Levin in person, so Bykov tasks Lobanov with impersonate him. This works as well as may be expected.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Varya's patient is so attractive, she only manages to finally examine him when he falls asleep... only to discover one little problem, which ruins the whole "magic".
  • "Fawlty Towers" Plot: Kisegach introduces Gleb to her old mentor as a gifted science-loving young specialist; the only true thing in this description is "young", so she's forced to ask Levin to impersonate Gleb. This eventually implodes... but then it turns out that her mentor likes the real Gleb much more than arrogant Levin: what he lacks in knowledge, he takes in charisma.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: Lobanov gave up on waiting for jealous husband of Kupitman's patient too soon and leaved... which led to Kupitman being attacked in his absence soon afterwards.
  • Insufferable Genius: Levin is forced to impersonate Gleb... but acts just like he usually does, being arrogant and boring. In the end, despite Kisegach's fears, Talanov actually likes the real Gleb much more than Levin.
  • Meaningful Name: Varya's patient has a surname "Malyshev" ("Maliy" means "Small" or "Little" in Russian). Three guesses to which part of him it refers.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Since Levin impersonates Gleb, Talanov mistakes the real Gleb (whom he firstly seen on a photo) for Kisegach's young boyfriend. This leads to Ship Tease moment when he tells Bykov that he considers Andrey and Anastasia to be destined for each other, and that Bykov must fight for her heart to the end, or he would regret losing her until death.
  • Mr Fan Service: Varya's patient is... attractive, to say the least. So attractive, in fact, that she barely can think straight near him. He also often doesn't bother to wear a shirt. She asks Lyuba for help... only for him to have the same effect on Lyuba as well.
  • Only in It for the Money: Lobanov only agrees to help Kupitman if he would be paid. Otherwise, he would just leave him to be beaten by his patient's jealous husband.
  • Snowball Lie: To hide the truth about who Gleb really is from her old mentor, Kisegach hires Levin to impersonate him. Since Levin uses this to praise Levin (i.e. himself), Bykov forces Lobanov to impersonate Levin (with predictable results). Unfortunately, Gleb was not aware of this, and when he learns that even his mother doesn't believe in him, he decides to confront her and destroy this deception.
  • Teeny Weenie: When Varya and Lyuba just sedates their patient to finally work with him (he was so handsome, they can't even think near him while he's awake), they decides to check if he's just as perfect everywhere... and finds out that one, specific part of him... isn't. They bursts into laugh (and Lyuba even mentions that he has rather fitting surname.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Gleb learns about Kisegach being ashamed of him enough to try to pass Levin for him, Gleb gets angry and decides to confront her about this, right in front of her mentor Valery Talanov (for whom this deception was created).
