Recap / The Interns S 2 E 18

Go To

Bykov accuses his (male) interns of being henpecked by their women... but doesn't specify whom he means, only that he means two out of three, so now each intern thinks that this one exception is him. To prove that they are really not "henpecked", each one now tries to resist their girls' control.

Kupitman tells Levin that Lyuba can just have a PMS, but Levin doesn't believe that PMS really exist, and thinks that Lyuba is really just trying to use it to manipulate him... and decides to just tell this to Lyuba. This quickly leads them to quarrel.

Gleb lies to Varya about his grandmother, so he can avoid going with her to historical exhibition... but Kisegach finds out and tells Varya that not only this is a lie, but Gleb was lying to her for a long time; now their relationship is on the edge.

Semyon has some progress with his treatment, but it would take at least a year until any real results — a full year of strictly healthy life: no booze, and no nicotine. But then he meets his old friend (who already has three kids), who warns him: once he and Olga starts making children, Semyon would never be free ever again (Olga would not let him), and he would drown in the family routine.

At the end of the day, Semyon suggests to just get drunk, in spite of everything their girls wants, to which Gleb and Levin agrees. But Levin quickly gives up when Lyuba pretends to be driven to tears by something, followed by Gleb who decides to check up on Varya. Only Lobanov stays and keeps drinking... and when Olya busts him with booze, she finally understands: Semyon would never change, even for her...

This episode provides examples of:

  • All Periods Are PMS: Kupitman suggest that Lyuba can be so angry because of PMS... but Levin doesn't believe in PMS at all, and accuses Lyuba of trying to use it to manipulate him. Then he outright tells her that he just "cancels PMS". She reacts by telling him that she then would "cancel sex". Instead of apologising, Levin constructs the list of "women's tricks", gives it to Lyuba and insists that this would not work on him, and that it is he who would deny sex to her.
  • "Fawlty Towers" Plot: Gleb lies to Varya about visiting his grandmother (so he can't go with her to that exhibition). When she suggests to just pay her a visit together, he lies again that her condition is so bad, he can't allow Varya to see her like this. Then Kisegach just tells Varya the truth, with predictable reaction. And Gleb was lying to them both for a long time, before all his lies finally bit him in the ass.
  • Henpecked Husband: Bykov tells his interns that two of them (excluding Varya, for obvious reasons) are "henpecked" (being entirely submissive to their women), but avoids specifying whom he means. Each intern now thinks that he meant two other interns. Lobanov tries to accuse Bykov of being a hypocrite, since his boss is also a woman (Kisegach), but Bykov insists that this is "different" (despite her also being his lover), and just leaves.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: During discussion about who of them is Henpecked Husband and who is not, each intern gets this after attempt to say that he is not "henpecked":
    • Lobanov insist that he is "dominant" in his relationship with Olga... only for Olya to appear and (angrily) accuse him of forgetting about his tests. Semyon just sheepishly tries to explain himself.
    • Levin insist that he and Lyuba are equals, and no one of them is dominant... only for Lyuba to appear and start (angrily) accusing him of just ignoring her. Levin just sheepishly tries to explain himself.
    • Gleb mocks both Lobanov and Levin, after which Varya appears and (calmly and gently) asks him for help. He (also gently) agrees. After that Semyon tells Levin that Gleb, in fact, was the first one to just follow his girl's "order", to which Levin agrees.
  • Wham Episode: Olga tolerated Lobanov's screwups for a long time, but when she sees him drunk in the end, she finally understands that while she wants children... Semyon, probably, doesn't. And he can't change this, even for her.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Kisegach learns that Gleb was lying to both her and Varya, and is furious. She insist that he must tell Varya the truth; when he doesn't, she tells by herself.
    • Varya finally learns about Gleb's constant lies, and is so angry, she decides to outright dump him; they wouldn't even remain as friends.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Lyuba pretends to be driven to tears by something to manipulate Levin into starting caring about her again (in his list of "all" women's tricks he forgot to mention tears). It works.
