Moon enlists Eclipsa herself to access Mewni's most guarded records.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When a door they need to get into is locked, Eclipsa asks Moon if she has a hairpin. Rather than pick the lock with it, Eclipsa uses the pin to adjust her own hair before going through a "rat hole" that leads deeper into the archives.
  • The Bus Came Back: Sean, the security guard, first appeared in "Page Turner".
  • The Comically Serious: Moon any time that she interacts with Eclipsa, specially en-route to the Archives.
  • The Conspiracy: It's shown that one has been formed to hide the existence of Eclipsa's daughter Meteora, who goes unmentioned in any records of the Mewman Royal Family. This even goes as far as the very well hidden archives, where Eclipsa's personal scroll has been edited to erase any mention of Meteora.
  • Continuity Nod: Moon does her mother's "I let you go" rhyme from "Rest in Pudding" after throwing Star out of her office.
  • Death Glare: In order to smuggle Eclipsa into the archives, Moon browbeats Sean the security guard into letting her go through the security checkpoint unscanned with a well-placed withering stare.
  • Driving Question: We know Eclipsa never had any children with her Mewman husband, so who is Festivia and what is her role in this? This is definitely something that will shake Mewni to its very core.
  • Eye Cam: Moon wakes up from her hypnotism-induced sleep to find the spider happily dancing with her crown on.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Moon gets stuck in a secret passage thanks to her big, fancy dress.
  • Hypno Pendulum: A spider swings in front of Moon's face and puts her to sleep so it can steal her crown.
  • I'll Never Tell You What I'm Telling You!: Moon insists to Eclipsa that she will not cast a memory erasing spell on Sean... and in doing so accidentally casts the spell on Sean, with Eclipsa claiming that she did it on purpose.
  • Indy Hat Roll: A variant; Moon uses the spider that stole her crown to get said crown out of the hidden archives before the security door closes.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Moon lets out a horrified "What have I done?" after Eclipsa baits her into zapping the security guard with a memory-wiping spell.
  • Sarcasm Mode: When Moon asks how it's possible that that Eclipsa's daughter inherited a tail from her father, Eclipsa responds as if Moon asked where Mewman-monster babies come from.
Eclipsa: Well, when a queen and a monster love each other very much...
  • Synchronous Episodes: This episode shows what Moon was doing during the events of "The Bogbeast of Boggabah". It even picks up from Moon's scene in that episode, Moon finds a scroll machine in the process of writing down River exposing Star as the "Bogbeast of Boggabah", and ends with Star coming into Moon's office like the previous episode ended.
  • The Talk: After Moon learns that Eclipsa's daughter inherited a tail from her father, she asks, "But how is that possible?" Eclipsa sarcastically starts to reply, "Well, when a queen and a monster love each other very much..." before being cut off by Moon.
  • Un-person: Whoever is responsible for Meteora becoming Ms. Heinous, this episode reveals they even went as far as altering historical documents to cover up that Meteora even existed, even in records that only the Magic High Council would have access to, much less think to check.
  • The Unreveal: After Moon finds out even Eclipsa's personal scroll has been edited, she does have an idea of who could be behind it, but we're never told who just yet.
  • Wham Episode: This episode reveals that Eclipsa's successor, Queen Festivia, was not her biological daughter and that her actual daughter's existence has been covered up, and that she never had any other children besides her.
