Chapter 52

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: canon!Renet doesn't appear until after the Hamatos reverse the Kraang Invasion of New York. Here it's during it.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: While fighting skeleton warriors, Leo, Raph and Mikey essentially have to re-learn how to fight as humans, having grown used to what is essentially a giant shield on their backs.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Miwa voices her displeasure at being stuck as a woman in the Middle Ages, convinced she'll be burned at the stake as a witch within the week.
  • For Want Of A Nail: While canon!Donnie never got around to curing Mutagen Man, here it was the first thing he did when everyone else decided to stay mutated for the physical advantage it provides.
  • Genre Savvy:
    • Once Renet explains who she is, Leo, Raph and Miwa start hedging their bets on how long it will take before it "blows up in [their] faces". Leo gives it five minutes, Miwa gives it less. Miwa wins when Savanti Romero shows up.
      Miwa: Called it.
    • Later, they start betting what they'll run into when they find the graveyard on the way to Savanti's Evil Tower of Ominousness. Raph bets skeletons and Miwa bets evil spirits. Savanti then appears and prove Raph the winner this time by summoning a small army of skeleton warriors.
  • Honorary True Companion: When Renet manages to impress the Hamatos by breaking them out of the time loop by punching it, Miwa gives Mikey her formal permission to marry her.
  • Humanity Ensues: With "a little quantum manipulation", Renet were able to temporarily turn Leo, Mikey and Raph back human. She stresses that it's only temporary because they aren't supposed to turn human for good until later.
  • Legend Fades to Myth: Renet reveals that the Hamato Clan are remembered as the "Turtle Warriors of Legend", but she is genuinely surprised that three of them are actual turtles, implying that they adopted the turtle as part of an Animal Motif.
  • Noodle Incident: At a young age, Raph had a childhood incident involving a pony ride that left him afraid of horses, an event he refuses to let Miwa elaborate on further.
  • Shout-Out: Miwa remarks that if they run into "any Black Knights, French jerks, or freaks who say 'Ni!'", she'll scream. Leading to Raph threatening to "slap the green off" Mikey if he starts quoting Monty Python.
  • Time Stands Still: When Kraang stealth ships start attacking, Renet freezes time around them to give them privacy.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: When Donnie demutates Timothy, he has no memory of himself or anything else, going into hysterics when he sees anything that reminds him (which is everything).
