Tropes in this episode include:

  • All-Loving Hero: Sailor Moon tries to free the girls from the electrifying webs in a desperate bid to save them.
  • Ambiguous Situation: When exactly did Nehelenia meet the Amazon Quartet and recruited them to join her Dead Moon Circus?
  • Ambiguously Human: The Amazon Quartet can count as this since we're never given a solid answer on whether they're actual humans or not. It doesn't help that the jungle they're introduced in appears to be set in another planet.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After Zirconia's illusion spell is undone, the Amazon Quartet are brought back with the presumed intention of fighting in her place. But it turns out that Nehelenia only brought them as batteries to power up Zirconia.
  • Berserk Button: Nehelenia loses her cool the moment Helios looks at her with unamused eyes.
  • Broken Pedestal: The Amazon Quartet originally held Queen Nehelenia in high regard for her kind presence and wonderful gifts. But their faith in her waivers after they end up punished for their insolence. And then the pedestal officially breaks after they're drained of their energy followed by Queen Nehelenia casting them aside.
  • Cliffhanger: The Sailor Guardians find an unconscious Chibi Moon and are interrupted by a massive earthquake which is coming from an armada of replica circuses invading Earth.
  • Cold Open: The Moon Cats fret over Mamoru's condition which leads to Luna recounting an old fairy tale she heard during the Silver Millennium Era. The scene then cuts to the Amazon Quartet before they were recruited by the Shadow Queen.
  • Complete-the-Quote Title: "...is worth two in the bush." (Cloverway dub only).
  • Continuity Nod: Luna and Artemis remember how Queen Serenity sealed away a malevolent witch in the New Moon.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: While draining the girls of their energy, Nehelenia openly questions if they believe that they were precious to her.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Zirconia uses a Shadow Clone Jutsu technique to overwhelm the Sailor Guardians.
  • Fairy Tale Motifs: As soon as she's done with Helios, Nehelenia takes a page from Maleficent and casts an Eternal Sleeping Curse onto Chibi Moon.
  • Flashback: While trapped in their void of a prison, the Quartet recall how they first met Nehelenia in their jungle home.
  • Foreshadowing: When Zirconia creates a clone army to attack the Sailor Guardians, the first one appears with Commander Zircon on top of her staff. The rest of the clones don't feature the flying eyeball.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being betrayed by their elders along with seeing the Heroic Resolve of the Sailor Guardians, the Amazon Quartet destroy their stones and quit their allegiance to the Dead Moon. They even guide the heroes to Zirconia's lair so they can rescue Chibi Moon.
  • Hostage Situation: After forcing out Chibi Moon's Dream Mirror, Nehelenia orders Helios to return to his corpse of a body unless he wants his holder's Dream Mirror to be shattered.
  • Impact Silhouette: Nehelenia escapes from her mirror which leaves behind a Looney Tunes-eque silhouette in the mirror's glass.
  • Ironic Echo: In the prison realm, Cere Cere uses fortune telling to determine whether they'll be set free. She does it again when deciding whether to break her stone or not.
  • Irony: As the Shadow Queen points out, Zirconia has the great pleasure of seeing her queen's beauty every-time she looks in the mirror. But to Nehelenia's anguish, all she gets to see is Zirconia's withered old face.
  • The Magic Goes Away: Ves Ves reveals that their stones are the source of their magic. And if they were to be destroyed, then they would lose their magic and be forced to grow up.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: After Nehelenia pulls out the Golden Crystal, Sailor Moon reacts in shock.
  • No Body Left Behind:
    • Helios fades into nothingness as soon as his Golden Crystal is stolen.
    • The same thing happens to Zirconia once her boss frees herself.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Chibi Moon pathetically begs Helios not to leave her after having his horn ripped out.
  • The Reveal: Zirconia is (somewhat) revealed to be Nehelenia's reflection who's been allowed to act out in the waking world while the queen is kept prisoner in the New Moon.
  • Spotting the Thread: Using her supercomputer, Mercury correctly deduces that the real Zirconia is the one with a flying flaming eyeball on her staff.
  • Take My Hand!: Chibi Moon and Helios reach out to each other's hands to avoid being separated by Queen Nehelenia's webs.
  • Wham Shot: Following Queen Nehelenia's liberation along with the sun being fully eclipsed, an armada of Dead Moon Circuses begin to rain down from the New Moon.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Chibi-Usa is surprised, but happy, to hear Helios call her by her first name for the very first time.
  • You Fool!: Zirconia says this to the Amazoness Quartet after they assume that they were released to fight the Guardians.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness:
    • Originally, Nehelenia recruited the Amazon Quartet because their youthful energy and innocence helped provide great power to the Dead Moon. But now that she's on the cusp of escaping her seal, she considers the Quartet to be as useful as disposable batteries.
    • This ends up happening to Zirconia who is obliterated after her beloved queen has reclaimed the Golden Crystal and escapes her mirror dimension.
