Choices are never easy. There are good and bad options, but the most dangerous is not to make any choice at all.

“No! This can't be happening! They would never betray us. This is all some sort of bad dream! Pluto, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune... They're all my friends and each one of them is precious to me. So this can't be true! I refuse to believe it!”
Usagi Tsukino

Sailor Moon and the Starlights are forced to fight and flee Uranus and Neptune who have betrayed them to get closer to Galaxia. And as soon as they carry out their last mission, Galaxia takes over the hunt for the galaxy's final guardians while also bringing up a disturbing revelation about the Legendary Light of Hope.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All for Nothing: Golden Queen Galaxia rubs it in the Outers' faces that their efforts to defeat amounted to nothing.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Sailor Moon frantically orders her former friends to "stop this already". Uranus and Neptune oblige by attacking them.
  • Beam-O-War: Defied: Uranus's "World Shaking" is able to overpower Star Fighter's "Star Serious Laser" thanks to Galaxia's energy flowing through her.
  • Berserk Button: Sailor Uranus pushes Fighter's button by bringing up how they couldn't save their princess.
  • Bitch Slap: Uranus silently but coldly slaps Moon across the face.
  • Break the Cutie: Invoked. Galaxia orders her new cronies to hold off on stealing Sailor Moon's Star Seed as she instead wants them to shatter her ideals before killing her.
  • The Cameo: Chibi-Usa makes an unofficial appearance in Usagi's dream.
  • Cliffhanger: After Galaxia reveals herself to be the Legendary Sailor Guardian, she summons the same sword she used to seal Chaos in while the other Guardians look on in terror.
  • Double Agent: The Outers are revealed to have been this all along with them pretending to follow Galaxia's will only for them to turn on her as soon as the opportunity arises.
  • Evil Weapon: Galaxia conjures her sacred sword that was once used to seal Chaos to destroy the final Guardians who oppose her.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: To Usagi's delight, the Starlights confirm to her that they are friends afterall.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In the last episode, Galaxia demonstrates how a Sailor Guardian is able to survive without a Star Seed if she's wearing a pair of her golden bracelets. Galaxia herself owns a pair and is revealed to not have a Star Seed herself.
    • After Galaxia reveals herself to be the Light of Hope who defeated Chaos, the episode ends on a closing shot of Chibi Chibi Moon.
  • Ghost City: Juuban turns into this as Galaxia's malevolent force managed to kill every human being while also harvesting whichever ones bore Star Seeds.
  • Heroic BSoD: Uranus and Neptune lose hope not only because their surprise attack on Galaxia turned out to be for nothing but also for the fact that they betrayed their fellow Guardians to make it happen.
  • In Medias Res: The episode immediately picks up with Sailor Moon confronting Uranus and Neptune who've turned Judas.
  • Last Request: Before disappearing to hell, Haruka and Michiru task the Starlights with protecting their crybaby princess.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: In her dream world, the Solar System Guardians explained that they had a secret plan of defeating Galaxia but couldn't tell Usagi to keep her safe.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Usagi wakes up in a dream world where all her friends, Inner and Outer, are perfectly okay and that Galaxia was dealt with. Mamoru and Chibi-Usa even appear to comfort her.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The last Guardians in the galaxy are horrified to learn that Galaxia was the Light of Hope all along.
  • Oh, Crap!: Uranus and Neptune are shocked to learn that Galaxia doesn't have a Star Seed.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Once the Outers are gone, Galaxia unleashes dark lightning attacks that completely ravage the city.
  • I Regret Nothing: Michiru openly declares that she doesn't regret what she did.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Galaxia removes Uranus and Neptune's shackles after they betrayed her.
  • Rousing Speech: Sailor Moon reaches her brink of despair and considers giving up to Galaxia. But the Starlights remind her that all of her friends, and even Mamoru, have the upmost faith in her and would want her to fight to the very end.
  • Say My Name: Sailor Moon cries out to her Outer friends just before they pass on.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: Galaxia cruelly calls Sailor Moon stupid for still believing in her friends even after she witnessed them murder Pluto and Saturn just moments ago. She even laughs after Sailor Moon insists on saving the Earth.
  • Take My Hand!: Haruka and Michiru's final act before vanishing is to reach for each other's hands.
  • Taking the Bullet: Star Fighter uses her body to shield Sailor Moon and Chibi Chibi Moon from the Outer's attack.
  • This Cannot Be!: Moon says this after seeing how the Earth has succumbed to Galaxia's dark power.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Unlike Sailor Moon who apologizes to the Outers, Star Fighter says that they got what they deserved for betraying their friends and values as Sailor Guardians.
  • Treachery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Both Haruka and Michiru bring up how they'll be going to hell to answer for what they did to Pluto, Saturn and their princess.
  • Triumphant Reprise: The Outer Theme returns when Uranus and Neptune turn their attacks onto Galaxia.
  • Villain Ball: Galaxia decides to give Sailor Moon and the Starlights a few minutes to surrender themselves rather then going on the offensive to claim their Star Seeds. Especially since Sailor Moon was emotionally vulnerable at the time.
  • Villain Respect: Galaxia commends the Outer Guardians for being able to resist her bracelet's controlling influence and proclaims that none of her previous subordinates have ever tried to do anything like what they just did.
  • Wham Line: As the Starlights bring up the Light of Hope, Galaxia shares what she knows.
Sailor Galaxia: The Legendary Sailor Guardian? A battle between light and dark has been waged for eons known as the Sailor Wars. The strongest Sailor Guardian fought Chaos and then sealed it within herself, thus bringing peace to the galaxy. I remember such a legend. I had forgotten about it. But that Legendary Sailor Guardian is me.
