Recap / SMG4 - Mario And... The Well

Go To

Little Boopkins is trapped in a well! What will everyone do to get him out?
Boopkins falls in a very deep well. Everyone tries to get him out... and fail, naturally.

First official episode of the Rapper Bob arc.

Upload Date: November 3rd, 2018

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Bob claims that he saved Boopkins for the "reward", before stating that it's also because Boopkins let Bob inside during the Purge. Of course, the truth is much darker.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Bob swoops in on a helicopter to save Boopkins. While shamelessly plugging his Sound Cloud.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Once all of their friends and allies fail to do anything, SMG4 is forced to place a reward for Boopkins's rescue. For two coins. The literal moment he places the bounty on a tree, cue literally everyone arriving.
SMG4: Trust me...Anybody would do anything for a little bit of-
(Cue the arrival of literally everyone)
FM: The police is here! Go boys go! Lil boopkins is trapped down the well!
Yoshi: The hell man? That's a so much money!
    Wario: Mooneeey... (makes slobbering noises)
(They, the police, a crowd of Teletubbies chasing Mario and more rush towards the well)
    SMG4: Cash...
  • Cool, but Inefficient: Tari gives Boopkins a "care package" that's filled with things he likes, but it's completely useless due to there being no power source to plug it in.
  • Distracted by the Shiny: As everyone is pulling out Boopkins, Mario gets destracted by a shiny coin on the ground.
  • Epic Fail: In one form or another. Quite literally everyone tries to rescue Boopkins and fails, with Meggy and Saiko's attempt only making things worse. It's taken Up To Twelve when SMG4's "reward" causes everyone else to sabotage each other for the two coins, getting Boopkins nowhere. It's only Bob who averts this.
  • Foreshadowing: Bob is the very first person seen in the main video, looking down the well before running away. Later, he shamelessly plugs his Sound Cloud before taking Boopkins home. Both of these details foreshadow the fact that he masterminded the episode to get fans for his rapping career.
  • From Bad to Worse: Saiko and Meggy's attempt to flood the well to make Fishy float up to the top, while logical, fails because Boopkins's weight from eating too many rocks, and have now flooded the well for nothing.
  • Gone Horribly Right: SMG4 believes putting a monetary reward will attract people's attention to save Boopkins. He's right that people are drawn in by the reward, but they focus on it so much that they're more fighting each other to be the one helping Boopkins than they are actually saving him.
  • Good Feels Good: Bob likes the cheers he gets for saving Boopkins, stating that "this is what it's liked to be loved."
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Toad gives a funeral service for Boopkins, even though he's still alive. Boopkins's not pleased with this.
  • Noodle Incident: Saiko said that she and Meggy stole a fire truck, but the latter insists that they borrowed it. It's revealed at the end that said fire truck belonged to Swagmaster (which he stole from the government) and he also replaced all the water inside the hose with vodka at some point.
  • Running Gag: Everyone suggests to Boopkins, who's trapped in brick well, to "try digging up."
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: X promptly gives up and leaves after seeing Steve try to drink all the water away from the well.
  • Shout-Out: A book entitled "So you're going to dienote " was a thing from an episode of The Simpsons. For added measure, the author is apparently Timmy O'Toole.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Mario's the first to give assistance to Boopkins when the latter is trapped in the well, giving him a shovel with the intention of having Boopkins dig up. SMG4 later arrives and asks if Boopkins tried doing just that, even having Bowser and Shroomy suggest he does it.
