A massive fire goes off in the woods, prompting help to come from different states. Among them, Hen, Buck, and Eddie from 118 join in with the 126 to put out the flames.
Tropes featured in the episode:
- Acting for Two: Mateo mentions having a cousin named Marvin Chavez who lives in LA. The actor playing Mateo played a character named Marvin in the 9-1-1 episode 7.1.
- Bear Trap: JJ is found with his ankle clamped on a bear trap. He was running from wolves running from bears running from the fire.
- Big Disaster Plot: This entire episode revolves around dangerous wildfires.
- Continuity Cavalcade: Many are made to episodes of both shows, as the 126 and 118 compare their track records:
- Buck mentions climbing a roller coaster to rescue someone, who wound up letting go.
- TK says a woman trapped in her bus nearly drowned on him the year before.
- Buck counters with the 118's own bus rescue: one that was hanging out the fifth floor of an office building.
- TK reminds them all of the previous week's active volcano.
- Eddie shows Marjan the picture of Christopher on his custom skateboard, after she shows him the woman she saved from her upside-down car.
- TK argues that while earthquakes are impressive, going up against a solar storm is way cooler.
- Buck reminisces about how often he would steal the 118's fire truck, and TK reflects on how Owen has always been there for him, even when he's done "a lot worse" than stealing a truck, probably a reference to his overdose.
- When Hen notes the resemblance between TK and Owen, Owen says he thinks TK looks more like his mom, the same response he gave to Zoe.
- Mateo references his cousin Marvin, who should be getting out of jail soon.
- Hen and Bobby trade guilt about people who died before them. In Hen's case, it's Evelyn, the girl she killed with her ambulance. For Owen, he still feels guilt about Rosewater dying in front of him.
- The Great Fire: The main disaster in this episode is a massive wildfire threatening the city of San Angelo, Texas, drawing volunteers and firefighters from all over the country to Texas.
- Irony: Judd gives Eddie the nickname "Hollywood", unaware that he's actually from Texas.
- Mistaken for Gay: TK assumes that Buck is asking him out, and tells him that he has a boyfriend. Buck is, naturally, rather confused.
- One Degree of Separation: As it turns out, Eddie and Judd attended rival high schools growing up.
- Shout-Out: Mateo interrupts TK and Buck's debate by comparing it to Iron Man vs Captain America, and says that the important thing is that when they're together, no one can beats them...except maybe Thanos.
- Sole Survivor: Owen reveals that during 9/11, out of his whole team who went into the towers that day, he was the only one who survived when they came down.
- Through the Eyes of Madness: While Owen and Hen are trapped in the mine, he's plagued by visions of a zombified Rosewater.
