Tropes in this episode:

  • Accidental Pervert: Jean accidentally sees Nadia changing into her swimsuit. This time, she angrily hurls a rock at his face. In Jean's defense, though, he wasn't trying to sneak a peek and didn't even know Nadia was changing. He was trying to see what Sanson was so interested in.
  • Amusing Injuries: Grandis and Nadia getting revenge for Sanson and Jean seeing them changing.
  • Beach Episode: Becomes one in the second half of the episode.
  • Call-Back: As with the previous episode, Marie, the 4 year old, is once again literally the only sane and mature one during the dinner disaster Sanson's rant instigates.
  • Covert Pervert: Unlike Jean and Nadia, Sanson was intentionally trying to sneak a peak at Grandis changing into her swimsuit. He gets one of Grandis' stilettos thrown in his face for his trouble.
  • Fanservice. Grandis and Nadia's anachronistic swimsuits. It is a Studio Gainax production, after all.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Nadia wearing a pretty dress and trying to impress Jean and get his attention. Up to this point, and despite the ice breaking between them after the Pilot, it's Jean who's had the crush on Nadia and so the infatuation's been one-sided. However, this is an early sign that Nadia is now genuinely starting to develop her own feelings for Jean.
    • In the final scene, something triggers Nadia's Blue Water. We learn in the next episode that a Neo-Atlantean Garfish' has docked on the other side of the island.
  • Gold Digger: Gonzalez in Grandis' backstory.
  • Impoverished Patrician: Grandis' backstory reveals she's become one in the Present Day.
  • Meat Versus Veggies: Nadia doesn't take the crew coming back with a dead baby deer well.
  • Multinational Team: While it's been there since Episode 04, it's explicitly pointed out to Jean and Nadia in-story that Nemo's crew is assembled from all people from all over the world (and who hate Gargoyle for various reasons, either as survivors of his attacks like Eiko or survivors of Tartessos).
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Played for laughs when Jean trying to see what Sanson's up to makes Nadia and Grandis realize they're being spied upon while changing.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Nadia tries to get Jean's attention during dinner by wearing the pretty dress Grandis loaned her. But he's too absorbed in the technical books Electra has loaned him and doesn't pay attention. Nadia is not happy.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sanson when he realizes Grandis has spotted him trying to get a peek at her changing.
  • Origins Episode: Grandis' backstory — and by extension, Sanson and Hanson's — is finally fleshed out during her campsite fire chat with Nadia.
  • Real Men Eat Meat: Sanson oh so much. If actually ends up being the catalyst for the episode, as Sanson's anti-Fish rant is what makes Nemo consider a shore leave excursion.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: Sanson and Hanson recognizing the signs of Grandis falling in love hard with Nemo during Episode 09 implied they'd seen this before. Their resignation had further implied the last time hadn't ended well. We finally get the full story here.
  • Shipper on Deck: Possibly Grandis when she lends Nadia one of her dresses. Grandis' official rationale for the loan is to clean up Nadia and her entourage and to enhance dinner to impress Nemo. However, given she specifically states she wants to make Nadia look beautiful, there's a subtle implication that Grandis does ship Nadia and Jean and is trying to help Nadia out in her own way.
  • True Companions: It's been clear since the beginning of the series that the Grandis Gang's not an ordinary group of thieves, But this episode truly reveals just how deep a bond Grandis shares with Hanson and Sanson and how much they all mean to one another.
  • Undying Loyalty: Again, while it's been there since the beginning of the series, Grandis' backstory underscores how much Grandis, Hanson, and Sanson value and love each other.
  • Vacation Episode: More or less, as the crew takes shore leave.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: The ultimate fate of Gonzalez after absconding with the Granva Family fortune. This will finally be followed up on (albeit not well) during the much-maligned Africa episodes.
