Recap / Mickey Mouse S3 E10 "No"

Go To

"No" is the tenth season 3 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 47th to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.

Mickey realizes that he can't say "No" (literally) to people wanting to borrow from him. As such, he gets Donald to teach him how to say "No".

This episode marks the last time Alan Young would voice Scrooge McDuck, as he would pass away 5 months after the episode's release.

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!": Mickey starts uncontrollably saying this to random people like a Verbal Tic after Donald teaches him how to say the titular word.
  • The Bus Came Back: Gubbles, Mickey's pet fish from the Season One episode "Gasp", makes a return appearance along with the cat that tried to eat him in that same episode.
  • The Cameo: Scrooge McDuck borrows five dollars from Mickey, Huey, Dewey & Louie TP Mickey's house, Mortimer Mouse "borrows" Minnie, Pete borrows Mickey's razor and the Three Little Pigs borrow Mickey's house.
  • Funny Background Event: When everyone leaves with the stuff they "borrowed" from Mickey, Minnie can be seen kicking Mortimer in the shin and storming off while he hops along after her.
  • Idiot Ball: Mickey is literally unable to say "no" in this short.
  • Karma Houdini: Donald gets away with causing Mickey pain to teach him to say "no".
  • A Lesson Learned Too Well: After Donald teaches Mickey how to say no, Mickey can't stop saying it at times when he should be saying "Yes", which eventually results in him going to jail, though he breaks out afterwards and everything eventually goes right.
  • Loophole Abuse: A mild example, but at the end of the episode, when everyone who asked Mickey for favors and eventually returned them ask that "Mind if we join you?", Mickey replies "As a matter of fact... Yes, I do mind!" (Raises eyebrows) Pretty clever for someone who's always a "Yes" man most of the time.
  • Nice Guy: Deconstructed then reconstructed. Mickey's kindness is literally the main thing going around Mickey and is being taken advantage by anyone near him. However, they all return his favour by giving his properties back (plus interest in Scrooge's case) at the end of the short.
  • Noodle Incident: After "borrowing" Minnie, Mortimer returns covered in bandages and using a crutch, remarking that Mickey can keep Minnie. What Minnie did to Mortimer to injure him that bad isn't explained.
  • One-Word Title: The episode's title only consists of No.
  • Teach Him Anger: Donald's method of teaching Mickey to say no consists of him squeezing Mickey's nose with pliers so he'll say "n" then punching him in the stomach to get the "o". The cycle continues until Mickey can say the whole word.
  • Toilet Paper Prank: Huey, Dewey and Louie borrow Mickey's toilet paper to cover his house in it.
