Recap / Kid Cosmic S 1 E 8 Earth Force Enforcement Force

Go To

While an elite new squad of government-sponsored superheroes faces down an alien threat, Kid begins to wonder if he's misjudged the entire situation.

Tropes:

  • Arc Words: "Surrender the stone!" Throughout the episode, each alien that the Earth Force fights uses a variation of these words, but note that they are demanding a singular Cosmic Stone. Other invaders have attempted to take all five.
  • Blood Knight: Blue Behemoth, who gains the gigantism abilities of the blue stone, really, really enjoys fighting intergalactic invaders.
  • Boss Rush: Earth Force faces one alien after another before it becomes an all out free-for-all against five of them.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Kid's comics play a big role in figuring out the aliens' interest and connections with the stones.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Aside from the team name itself, the Earth Force Enforcement Force theme song seems specifically designed to make the word "force" lose all meaning.
EARTH FORCE! ENFORCEMENT FORCE! ENFORCING THE FORCE OF THE EARTH FORCE!
  • Despair Event Horizon: The normally excitable Kid has lost all confidence after losing the stones. He is seen in a cave burning his comic books.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Kid finds out about the "invaders" true goal by seeing their power matching that of the Cosmic Stones, as well as the interest in their own stones and not each others'.
  • Good All Along: Kid realizes that the "Alien Invaders" are actually the sole survivors of their species who are trying to reclaim the cosmic stones because they are literally the final remnants born from the destruction of their home worlds. This is also the plot of a comic book he read earlier.
  • Killer Rabbit: The tiny bug-like Alien who turns out to be able to grow huge. While the Earth Force laughs at it, the other aliens back off for a while because of this. Kid asumes the bug will get squished before...
Kid: Your loss, little... (sees creature turning big) big guy.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: When Queen Xhan and the red robot fight each other, Earth Force stands by the sidelines and watch. The Biker in Black defies this himself by ordering them to take on both aliens.
  • Odd Name Out: The only episode title in Season One to not follow the pattern of "Kid Cosmic and the..."
  • Oh, Crap!: This Kid's reaction when he realized that the comic he's looking for was the one he just threw into the fire.
  • The Reveal:
    • Kid has been hiding in a cave for the past several days.
    • Kid notices the similarities between the Cosimc Stones Earth Force possesses and the aliens they fight, suspecting that there may be more to them then the government thought.
  • Rule of Symbolism: While Kid is in his Heroic BSoD, he's feeding his campfire with his comics, reflecting how disillusioned he's become with the very idea he'll ever be a hero. When he recognizes the five aliens aren't malicious and salvages the comic that confirms his theory they're Good All Along, it represents that his belief in being a hero has been restored. What's more, it represents his personal growth as a hero.
  • Shout-Out: The Earth Force Enforcement Force are a direct parody of Super Sentai and Power Rangers.
  • TV Never Lies: Kid has learned that his adventures are rarely, if not ever, like the comics he collects. However, after seeing something off about the battle between Earth Force and the aliens, he reads one of the comics he was going to burn and finds a clue that the aliens may not be hostile.
