Recap / Kid Cosmic S 1 E 7 Kid Cosmic And The Invaders From Earth

Go To

When the mysterious man in black and his army take over the town, Tuna Sandwich partners with a former foe in order to bring the team back together.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: The first time Jo gets Rosa's "Meat Potty" note, she thinks it's just gibberish. After Tuna himself tells her to meet her in the bathroom, it dawns on her what "meat potty" really means.
  • Broken Pedestal: Chuck is reasonably ticked off about his Great Leader being a Dirty Coward and leaving him behind on Earth.
  • Darkest Hour: The stones have been confiscated by the government, the Local Heroes are on house arrest, and Kid has gone AWOL.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Chuck does one starting from this episode, left disillusioned after the Great Leader abandoned him on Earth. He decides to help find Kid and hands his translator to Tuna, well aware that his personal attempt at speaking English is painful without it.
  • Given Name Reveal: The "G" in "Papa G" stands for "George".
  • Mr. Vice Guy: Tuna acknowledges that Kid's biggest redeeming quality is his big heart. However, he also notes that Kid's biggest flaw is that his heart is his only redeeming quality, as opposed to having a little common sense.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Discussed and averted. Chuck tries to use a soldier's uniform to blend in with the others, but Tuna points out the folly of a cat and a legless alien trying to blend in with humans.
  • Rule of Three: Tuna's attempt to talk to Jo to come meet him in the bathroom, so she can escape from the soldiers guarding the cafe. First, he attempted to talk to her himself but failed because he doesn't use his translator (which he will only activate when they're in a private spot). Second, Chuck wrote a note to her, but he wrote it in a language that a human like her wouldn't understand; and third, Rosa wrote a note to her only the words didn't make sense to her in a form of "meat potty". It's only when Tuna uses his translator in private would get Jo to listen to him.
  • The Reveal:
    • The delivery alien who was carrying the Cosmic Stones survived the crash from the first episode. And he's not happy about being captured, or missing his daughter's birthday thanks to Chuck's attack.
    • The Biker in Black reveals that the government has been watching Kid's adventures to study the Cosmic Stones' power before making their move to acquire them. They see the Local Heroes no more than "guinea pigs".
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Tuna's attempts to have Chuck and Rosa write notes to meet in the bathroom don't work, because Chuck is an alien who can speak English but can't write it, and Rosa's only four and is still learning how to write full sentences (though her handwriting is impressively legible).
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight:
    • Inverted. Jo is used to aliens popping up, but is unprepared for the local cat suddenly talking to her.
    • Played straight with the guards around Rosa's house, as they never find anything odd about a cat dragging an alien through the desert.
  • Wham Shot: Chuck gives Tuna Sandwich his translator, granting the cat human speech for the first time.
