Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 5 Monkey A Go Go

Go To

Jackie, Jade, and Uncle travel to Hawaii in search for the monkey with the power of shapeshifting. Much to their dismay, the Monkey King has returned to get revenge on them for what happened last time.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Hero: Daolon Wong reverting the Monkey King to a puppet restores the transformed construction worker to normal.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • Monkey King intends to make Tohru talk, and his shadow suggests he's brandishing a knife while approaching a bare foot. It's instead a feather, and he proceeds to Tickle Torture him.
    • The group tries to escape the erupting volcano, only to get overtaken and submerged. Luckily, it turns out to be cherry gelatin instead of lava.
  • Banana Peel: Jackie almost slips over one after Haiku becomes a pigeon to fly away.
  • Call-Back: Tohru watches Helmut and Ulf who, sure enough, have a juggling bear on stage as they stated at the end of "Viva Las Jackies".
  • Chirping Crickets: The Monkey King gets this reception in one scene. It becomes a Visual Pun because Haiku turned into a cricket.
    Monkey King: Wise guy!
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Daolon Wong easily dominates his brief fight with the Monkey King. All the Monkey King manages to do is throw a pie in Daolon Wong's face, before being blasted by dark Chi magic and then turned back into a doll.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Daolong Wong versus The Monkey King
  • Exact Words:
Uncle: How did you know where to find us?
Monkey King: Let's just say someone you know ratted you out.
(Cue Tohru dressed in a rat costume and running in a hamster wheel)
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Monkey King gets quite jealous at the shapeshifting noble monkey when he steals the spotlight away from him.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Monkey King realizes he is missing three pounds of wood for his spell to erupt the volcano.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Jackie, after Monkey King snags him with the Vaudeville Hook.
  • Sequel Episode: I'll Be a Monkey's Puppet
  • Revenge: The Monkey King tracks Jackie and Jade down all the way to Hawaii to get revenge for being turned back into a puppet and buried in cement.
  • Tickle Torture: How the Monkey King gets Tohru to tell him where the others went.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom:
    • The construction workers who come across the Monkey King puppet in cement, with one opting to pull his leg.
    • Uncle inadvertently makes the trip to acquire the monkey with the power of shapeshifting take longer than it should when he screams at the sight of his ruined locater spell, scaring Haiku into changing into a pigeon and flying away.
  • Vaudeville Hook: Monkey King pulls this on Jackie when he tries to escape his grasp.
    "Leaving so soon?"
  • Villain Ball: With Monkey King not wasting any time trying to kill him and Uncle, Jackie exploits his desire to make a comedic show of everything. Instead of simply slicing and dicing with a scythe, Monkey King opts for a luau-themed barbecue death, which buys Jade enough time to save them.
