Gordon visits the Pyg in Arkham Asylum, after Fox has realized that the Pyg has undergone numerous facial surgeries. Fox learns that he was a serial killer named Lazlo Valentin. The Pyg later breaks out of Arkham.

Thompkins and Nygma are conflicted with a rival mobster in the Narrows, Sampson, who challenges her leadership. Thompkins also learns that Nygma's side effects from being frozen have worn off, while Nygma begins having hallucinations of his dual personality as the Riddler.

Cobblepot confronts Sofia. As part of an intricate plan, Sofia flees, but is kidnapped by Barbara, Tabitha and Selina. The four make an alliance, and after Zsasz explodes Barbara's safehouse, they use Martin as leverage against Cobblepot, while Gordon learns of Sofia's intentions to use the GCPD against Cobblepot via Gordon's promotion. The two factions meet under a bridge, and Cobblepot fakes Martin's death in a car bombing to force Sofia to retreat, declaring war.

  • Batman Gambit: Gordon hits Pyg's Berserk Button of not being considered important in order to get him to slip up and reveal something of himself out of anger.
  • Berserk Button: A patient hates "Ave Maria" because his mom played that song when he killed her.
  • Couldn't Find a Pen: Pyg leaves a goodbye message for Gordon in the blood of the guard he just murdered.
  • Disney Death: Penguin kills Martin by blowing up the car he was in, using this as a declaration of war against Sofia... at least, that's what we're led to believe; in reality, Penguin allowed Martin to sneak out of the car in secret, faking his death. Afterwards, he makes sure that the boy is sent to a safe location outside of Gotham.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Zig-zagged. Sofia didn't anticipate Penguin would kill Martin. Turns out he actually didn't, but she has no way of knowing that, and thinks he did.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Sofia tells the Sirens she's against Penguin, they're naturally dubious. Tabitha and Barbara are pushing her but Selina is looking at the security monitors.
Selina: Uh, guys, I think we should listen to her.
    Barbara: Why?
Selina: Because Zsasz is standing out front holding a rocket launcher.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Penguin points out that even Sofia's father wouldn't have sunk to using a child as leverage.
  • Fakeout Escape: Pyg escapes his cell by making it look like his cell is empty, and when a guard goes in to investigate, he kills him.
  • Hallucinations: At the end of the episode, Ed starts seeing visions of his Riddler persona again.
  • I Lied: Martin lied about seeing Sofia and Gordon kiss. Sofia knew Penguin is using him as a spy, so she told him to lie to Penguin.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Sampson in the Narrows.
  • Improvised Weapon: Pyg kills an Arkham patient with the sharp end of a vinyl record he snapped in half.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Sofia played Penguin from the start, and knew how he would react at every turn. She also tried to get the police and Penguin's empire to shoot each other, hence having Gordon promoted to captain in the first place. She made a deal with the Sirens to kidnap Martin, presumably knowing Gordon would betray her.
  • Mob War: One breaks out between Penguin and Sofia.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Penguin gives one to Sofia.
  • The Reveal:
    • Leslie found out there was nothing wrong with Riddler physically, but psychologically.
    • Pyg's real name is Lazlo Valentine, and he's actually from the Deep South.
  • This Means War!: At the end, Sofia declares war on Penguin after the meeting at the bridge went south.
  • Un-person: Pyg took steps to do this to himself, burning off his fingerprints and having titanium plates installed in his skull to alter his face.
  • Villain Team-Up: Sofia allies with the Sirens to take down Penguin.
  • Villainous Glutton: Sampson is a very literal example of "conspicuous consumption."
  • Would Hurt a Child: Sofia would kill Martin to get control of Gotham so her father would be proud of her. Penguin killed Martin himself so he wouldn't be used as an Unwitting Pawn again. Except he faked Martin's death.
