"What loser gets detention on the first day?"
—Lee Ping unknowingly tempting fate

Written by Daniel Bryan Franklin & Charles Johnston

Instead of starting the first day of his sophomore year with a clean slate, Lee Ping has been blamed for pulling the biggest prank in high school history and winds up getting a year of detention for it. In actuality, he's been framed. Despite the sudden rise in his popularity, Lee is desperate to prove his innocence and get his life back. However, the evidence would be destroyed by the time he's dismissed from detention. What's a teen gotta do? With the help from his fellow "detentionaire" acting as Mission Control, our hero breaks out of detention to collect clues and to make it back before he's caught by the new principal and his army of Hazmat Suit-wearing janitors.

  • Consolation Prize: Though he lost the camcorder containing footage of the prank to a mysterious figure, Lee did find a digital camera that had pictures of the event, including an image of someone's hand in Lee's bag.
  • Covered in Gunge: After the sabotaged assembly, the students had to spend the rest of the day coated in a mixture of paint, vomit, and potato flakes.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The old character models are still used, and a couple of swears managed to sneak past the radar.
  • Enemy-Detecting Radar: Utilized by Biffy to keep track of Barrage by having Lee trick the principal into confiscating a phone that was synchronized with his own.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
  • First Day from Hell: A non-lethal example as the big prank occurred on the first day of school and Barrage's first day as principal.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: What Lee has become thanks to the prank, in the eyes of the staff (including his mother) and a good number of students. Slightly subverted as most of the students now like him.
  • Odd Friendship: Biffy strikes one up with Lee with the offer to aid him on his mission, despite him being the reason he's in detention.
Lee: Why are you helping me?
Biffy: I could give you a beating if you'd prefer.
    Lee: I vote for "helping."
  • Orgy of Evidence: Lee's backpack was mysteriously filled with blueprints of the gym & instructions to set up the prank. Subverted as only Lee, Cam, Holger, and Biffy are the only ones convinced that the bag was planted.
  • Shout-Out: To the Ramones' song.
  • The Other Darrin: Lee Ping had a change in voice actors in the transition from pilot to series.
  • Potty Emergency: The reason why Lee left the mandatory assembly early. Unfortunately, his return after the prank is what cements his blame.
  • Race Against the Clock: In order to get the proof he needs to clear his name, Lee has to get out of detention to the gym, grab the camera that recorded the prank, and make it back before 4:15 when detention ends.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Due to his rise in popularity, Lee is unexpectedly thrust into a relationship with Brandy, which is Played for Laughs.
  • Retool: This is the slightly edited pilot episode. See also The Other Darrin
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: In the still shots of the prank, several students are seen throwing up.
