Dorien: Well it won't take my money. What's wrong with my money? My money too good for you, is it?! Too posh or something?! Oh! Five percenters! Where's the exchange rate?
Dorien Green getting frustrated over her lack of public callbox experience.

  • Date First Aired: 16/06/1997

After Marcus kicks her out over her affair with Jonathan, Dorien has moved in with her mother, only to discover that Marcus has been having an affair of his own. Meanwhile, Darryl is still readjusting to life back at Dalentrace, and Chris is now living in a flat and determined to win back Sharon. However, it seems like Chris will have a fighting chance when Darryl evicts Sharon after a heated argument and she is left with no choice but to move in with him.

Tropes In This Episode:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Dorien accidentally calls Darryl "Derek".
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Sharon takes on Tammy Wynette's country accent when she sings "D-I-V-O-R-C-E".
  • Cardboard Box Home: When Tracey says she's been dreaming of having Darryl home, Sharon remarks she must have been living in a cardboard box in that particular dream.
  • Continuity Nod: Chris is still bandaged up after his accident in the last episode. Dalentrace being remortgaged off-screen is also mentioned again.
  • Copycat Mockery: Garth copies Tracey's voice when explaining how she and Darryl keep him up with their loud sex.
  • Cover Up Purchase: Dorien is too embarrassed to ask for her risque photos and keeps buying other items instead. Too bad she has no money and Tracey is forced to pay.
  • Downer Ending: The episode ends on Dorien and Sharon losing their homes, and Sharon being left with only Chris to take her in.
  • Faint in Shock: Dorien faints after seeing the photos of Marcus with his secret family.
  • Hypocrite: Marcus kicks out Dorien for being unfaithful, despite the fact he is also having an affair of his own that has resulted in a bastard lovechild! That's also not even mentioning the fact that she forgave him for another affair in "Still Waters Run Deep", the affair she came close to finding out about in "Falling in Love Again" or his attempted affair in "Cheat!".
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Sharon keeps walking in on Tracey and Darryl getting passionate.
  • It's All About Me: Dorien cuts off Sharon yelling at Darryl for screwing her and Tracey's swimming pool business to try and bring the focus back on her.
Dorien: What about me?! What about my tragedy?!
Darryl: Oh, shut up about yer tragedy.
Garth: Yeah, they're startin' one of their own.
  • Lazy Bum: Garth calls out Darryl for not doing anything since his release from prison.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Darryl wants to make love to Tracey across the kitchen worktop.
  • Right Through the Wall: Tracey and Darryl kept Garth awake all night:
Garth: Yeah, so it's really great lis'enin' to your mum goin' "Yes, Darryl, yes! No, Darryl, no!".
  • Secret Other Family: Dorien finds photos of Marcus with a different wife and bastard son, and the shock leaves her heartbroken.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title of the episode comes from Relative Strangers, a Brit Com from the 1980s that was written by the creators of BOAF, Maurice Gran and Laurence Marks.
    • Sharon thinks Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are great teams.
    • Darryl says listening to the girls talk to him is like being the only man in Prisoner: Cell Block H.
    • When Darryl sees a hysterical Dorien, he remarks they should call the Samaritans and get her out of his kitchen.
    • When evicting Sharon, Darryl remarks "Sharon doesn't live here anymore".
    • When Sharon and Garth protest her eviction, Darryl asks if she wants a brass band to play "She's Leaving Home" by The Beatles.
    • Sharon calls a "Judas in a frock" for letting Darryl evict her.
    • When Dorien remarks she's in the same boat as Sharon after they both become homeless, Sharon tells her "Welcome to the Titanic".
  • Speak in Unison: Tracey, Sharon and Darryl all tell Dorien to shut up as she cries over losing her house.
  • Spelling for Emphasis: Sharon does so when she sings "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" by Tammy Wynette.
  • With Friends Like These...: Tracey and Sharon crack jokes at Dorien's expense when she pleads about her rapidly crumbling marriage to them.
