Go To

Airdate: December 26, 2003

"Big Horns George" contains examples of:

While going out with Grandma Thora at a china shop, D.W. hears a swear word from a boy who was being scolded by his mother. D.W. wants to ask Thora what the word means, but backs out as she has some bad thoughts that saying it might make people drop items, as she saw the mother dropping a goblet after the boy said that word.

"Bleep" contains examples of:

  • Ambiguous Situation: Due to the swear word being bleeped out, it's never known what the exact word is.
  • Continuity Nod: D.W. causes Arthur's model plane to be smashed again, but this time it's because she asks him what the swear word was, only for Arthur to accidentally drop it.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: The whole plot could've been avoided if D.W. either told Grandma Thora or at least one of her parents right after shopping about the swear word. Asking her brother Arthur and the Tibbles wasn't a good idea as they just tell her not to say anything to her parents, which only worsened D.W's curiosity, while the Tibbles also try to get her in trouble. She did think about going to her parents afterwards, but her fear of the presumed consequences impeded her.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: D.W. fears that saying the swear word would make people drop their items, especially if the moon falls from the sky.
  • Dramatic Drop: When D.W. hears a boy saying a swear word in the opening, it causes his mother to drop the goblet she's holding in shock. This makes D.W. assume at first that the word will cause whoever hears it to drop things. Arthur also drops and breaks a model plane he was working on upon hearing D.W. say the word to him.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite causing problems with the Molinas about saying the swear word, Jane tells D.W. that she's off the hook this time as she didn't understand what the word was (and the Tibbles tricked her yet again into thinking it was a Trigger Phrase for adults).
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Jane calls D.W. by her full name after she hears her daughter say the swear word to her.
  • Innocent Swearing: D.W. picks up on a swear word that she heard from a boy at a shop without knowing what it means. In the end, she sees her classmates using the word as well, prompting her to sit down and have a talk with them.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: When Jane keeps calling her down for dinner, D.W. tells her mother to go away while using the swear word, and then realizes what she just said.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Nadine, not wanting to get punished by Jane, makes herself disappear on cue after D.W. tells her mother to go away while using the swear word. Apparently, she didn't realize that Jane couldn't have punished her anyway.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The boy D.W. finds swearing at his mother only appears for one scene and is not a major character in the episode, but he directly causes the plot since D.W. learns the swear word from him.
  • Swear Word Plot: The whole plot involves D.W. learning a swear word, as well as how it's not polite to say such words to people.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The boy swearing at his mother was indirectly the cause of D.W.'s conflict.
