Summary

Alan leaves his Nintendo Switch connected to the computer, and Second Coming soon discovers Super Mario Bros.. He attempts to interact with the main character, Mario. After accidentally damaging him and then stealing his Mushroom, Mario declares war and uses the Switch Library to summon 2 other versions of himself and enemies from 2 and 3 as backup. The fighting soon stops when the stick figures want try out the power-ups the games offer, becoming friends with the Marios of 2 and 3. When the original Mario comes back to fight, he learns that the stick figures and Marios have used the assets to create a make-shift Super Mario Maker. Despite still trying to fight, SC offers Mario a Mushroom to bring him back to normal size, ending the conflict.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: SMB1 Mario is quite less understanding than his canon counterpart, declaring war on the stick figures when he mistakenly believes that they're evil.
  • Collision Damage: The Second Coming tries to shake SMB1 Mario's hand and ends up damaging him due to the game's rules on this. Fortunately, Mario had eaten a Super Mushroom before it happened. Unfortunately, Mario takes offense.
  • Decomposite Character: All three of the titular protagonists from the original Super Mario Bros. games of the NES (SMB1, SMB2, and SMB3) are depicted as separate characters as Alan Becker owns a library of old games from the Nintendo Entertainment System.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • The Napoleon: SMB1 Mario spends most of the episode as Small Mario and is the most eager to destroy the stick figures, being the one to send power ups and obstacles to the playing field.
  • Oddball in the Series: Whereas the other "Animation vs. [media name]" videos in the series tend to have higher stakes, this one is rather simple: Stick figure angers video game character on accident, leading to a brawl until everyone decides to be friends. The video is also a lot shorter with its runtime being 5 minutes long, while other standalone adventures had a runtime of over 10 minutes.
  • Poor Communication Kills: What kicks off the episode. Due to Second Coming damaging SMB1 Mario, as well as accidentally stealing his Mushroom, Mario declares war on him and the other stick figures by summon future versions of himself and enemies from other Mario titles from the Animator's Nintendo Switch. They stop fighting by the end of it, instead creating a makeshift Super Mario Maker.
  • Sore Loser: While neither side actually "loses" due to everyone deciding to become friends, SMB1 Mario stomps his hat in annoyance when he sees that his allies befriended the stick figures.
