Recap / Angry Birds Toons S1E5 "Egg Sounds"

Go To

Red, Chuck and Matilda are convinced that the eggs are starting to make noise and begin a sing-off to test who the hatchlings will take after, unaware that it's really just the Blues playing a prank on them.

Tropes:

  • All Is Well That Ends Well: While Red, Chuck or Matilda doesn't win the argument, they manage to get their own back on the Blues and one of the eggs actually makes a sound!
  • All Just a Prank: The Blues were actually behind the sounds that tricked the other birds into thinking the eggs were making sound and thus drive the plot. They're found out near the end.
  • Argument of Contradictions: Red, Chuck and Matilda fight over who the eggs belong to but don't reach a resolution.
  • Art Shift: The animation style used for the imaginary hatchlings resembles crayon drawings.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Red, Chuck and Matilda laugh together after successfully pranking the Blues. Their laughter even continues over the credits!
  • Feud Episode: Red, Chuck and Matilda argue over who the eggs belong to but reconcile in the end.
  • Gender Equals Breed: The baby Reds and Chucks seem to be all male, while the baby Matildas seem to be all female.
  • Heinz Hybrid: The hybrid abomination hatchlings that Red, Chuck and Matilda accidentally create while arguing have elements of all three "parents". A downplayed example as the "parents" are all birds, albeit different breeds.
  • Identical Grandson: The imaginary hatchlings look like miniature versions of whichever prospective parent is imagining them e.g. Red imagines them as mini-Reds.
  • Imagine Spot: Red, Chuck and Matilda each have one of their potential children.
  • Jacob and Esau: The driving force of the plot and the conflict between Red, Chuck and Matilda. Each bird wants all three of the hatchlings to resemble them (as in, whichever bird is imagining them) in appearance and behaviour. An unusual example considering that the children in question are hypothetical.
  • Men Use Violence, Women Use Communication: An indirect example. Red and Chuck's hatchlings are shown beating up a pig and doing martial arts respectively, while Matilda's are peace activists.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: Matilda desires her hatchlings to be like this, complete with one having a Third Eye.
  • Pictorial Letter Substitution: The round tips of the music notes emitted by the Blues' saxophone resemble Angry Birds, complete with head feathers. They even change colour depending on which bird is being "sung" to!
  • Prank Gone Too Far: Red, Chuck and Matilda are not happy when they discover the Blues have been tricking them into thinking the eggs were making sounds. Chuck retaliates by disguising himself as a bush monster to scare away the Blues.
  • Screaming at Squick: Red, Chuck and Matilda do this when their imaginary children have merged into hybrid abominations following their argument.
