Desperate for fun, Polly breaks out on her own and finds an unlikely new friend in the process.

Tropes:

  • Baby See, Baby Do: Frobo copies whatever Polly does, with Polly even making the comparison to a tadpole. Of course, he's also a heavy, destructive robot, so this becomes a problem.
  • Berserk Button: Frobo goes on a rampage when one of the villagers accidentally kicks Polly.
  • Call-Back:
  • Character Development: Anne and Sprig are considerably more responsible and refuse to take part in Polly's mischievous antics.
  • Didn't Think This Through: After jumping into the fountain, Polly tells Frobo to join her. Unfortunately, she's forgotten both how big he is and how high he can jump.
Polly: (as Frobo cannonballs into the fountain) This might've been a mistake.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even after Polly explains that it was her fault Frobo wrecked Wartwood, due to him copying what she did and then wanting to protect her when she accidentally got hurt, the town isn't eager to accept him after all the damage he did. Once Polly gets Frobo to apologize though, everyone immediately accepts him.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Toadstool remarks that the town has already accepted two monsters when agreeing to let Frobo stay in the town, much to Anne's annoyance.
  • Inspiration Nod: Before Polly comes up with the name "Frobo", she identifies it based on Anne's video game as "a robo", calling attention to its similarity to Robo from Chrono Trigger.
  • Instant Expert: Frobo creates a simple fenced garden in seconds when Polly asks him to show off for Hop Pop, even though she never taught him anything of the sort.
  • Internal Reveal: The Plantars finally learn about Frobo's existence.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Mayor Toadstool remarks that this is the second time the fountain has been destroyed this week (likely referring to the damage that Marcy did to it in the last episode).
  • No More for Me: Upon seeing a literal flying fish (thanks to Frobo lifting Stumpy's into the air with his Extendable Arms), Wally does a Spit Take and declares this trope after putting down his mug.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Polly insists to the town that Frobo isn't dangerous and tells Frobo to show them what he can do. He uses Eye Beams on a nearby weathervane, blowing the object up.
  • Officer O'Hara: One of the cops has an Irish accent for some reason.
  • Police Are Useless: The police blame some of Frobo's property damage on a giant octopus and consider the case solved, then don't bother to arrest Frobo later both because he apologized and they have no way to cuff him.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Frobo's eyes turn red when he sees someone accidentally kick Polly.
  • Shout-Out: After accidentally dousing Mrs. Croaker in the filling of a freshly-baked beetle pie, Polly escapes by performing a spin-dash, which Frobo copies.
  • Suddenly Voiced: After being silent in his previous appearances, Frobo says his first word, which is Polly's name.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The end of the trailer for Season 2b shows Frobo planting a garden and Hop Pop calling him by his name.
  • Vocal Evolution: Sprig's deeper voice this season is lampshaded by Anne.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The episode takes obvious inspirations from The Iron Giant, with a giant robot befriending a young child, initially being met with hostility, then driven into a blind rage when it looks like his one friend was hurt, before finally being accepted.

No More For Me, Thanks!

When Frobo lifts Stumpy's high into the air, Wally thinks he's had too much to drink when he sees a fish-bird pass by the window, pushing his mug away.

How well does it match the trope?
