Recap / Adventure Time S 6 E 3 James II

Go To

Finn and Jake learn that Clone James has been faking his death to collect medals.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Bubblegum scolds Finn and Jake for just sitting around watching the Banana Guards run around. They invite her to watch with them, and she admits that it is funny.
  • All There in the Manual: Apparently, Root Beer Guy was on vacation during this episode, explaining why he wasn't with the Banana Guards.
  • Body of Bodies: The James clones end up merging with the original, mutated James into a single, multi-headed body, with Original James presumably trapped inside.
  • Breather Episode: Finn, Jake and Bubblegum have all earned a day full of wacky chase scenes and fighting mindless goo-zombies.
  • Chest of Medals: Clone James has all the medals his clones have won for him hanging around his neck.
  • Chickification: PB for some reason just stands and screams as the zombified original James charges her, without trying to evade him.
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: to James.
  • Dog Pile of Doom: This is how the James clones save Princess Bubblegum from Original James, now an Ooze Zombie.
  • Engineered Heroics: James II repeatedly "saving" Princess Bubblegum from non-existent threats.
  • Faking the Dead: James II has been faking his death for more medals and clones.
  • Flashback: The episode uses a flashback sequence to remind the audience of the events of "James".
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Clone James started to fake his death so Bubblegum would make another clone so he wouldn't be lonely, but after that it got out of hand.
  • Lighter and Softer: In comparison to the episode that this is a sequel to.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: Princess Bubblegum's normally skinny legs are oddly thicker when she's in her hiking outfit.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Princess Bubblegum says this almost word-for-word when James tries to save her at the start of the episode.
  • Overly Long Gag:
    • Princess Bubblegum ends up having to spend a long time explaining that James II and the other Jameses are clones, and not brothers.
    • The Banana Guards take a long time recognizing the James clones as the perpetrators they're looking for.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Some of the Jameses hide from the Banana Guards by wearing White Gloves. The Banana Guards only recognize them when their gloves slip off.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Rather than help Princess Bubblegum deal with the Jameses, Finn and Jake sit back and watch as Hilarity Ensues. At one point they tear pieces of the wall they're sitting on to eat, and invite Bubblegum to watch the Banana Guards bungle trying to apprehend the Jameses.
  • Police Are Useless: Subverted in two instances.
    • The Banana Guards are still slow of mind, but they eventually catch on and find the Jameses.
    • For once, the Gumball Guardians aren't overwhelmed and eliminate the evil threat.
  • Put on a Bus: After the clones get mashed up into one body, Princess Bubblegum gives James his medals back, but also orders him to go into the wasteland and never come back.
  • Rube Goldberg Device: The Jameses attempt to build one to use against the Banana Guards. It promptly falls apart.
  • Sequel Episode: To "James".
